Meet Judy Buddensick of Frances Marketing Group, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Buddensick.

Hi Judy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always wanted a career in public relations and politics…but after a college internship for the Comptroller of the City of New York, my path took a slightly different turn…proud to have built a dynamic career at the intersection of advertising, media, & marketing, beginning in New York City during a vibrant era of creative growth starting on the ad agency side and then moving over to the legendary Z100 radio!

I was with Z100 for nearly a decade and was there for the launch of the iconic holiday show, the Jungle Ball and that lead to a storied career in radio. I gained hands-on experience in storytelling, audience engagement, and brand communication. Immersed in one of the world’s most competitive media markets, and developed a sharp creative instinct and a strong understanding of how compelling messages connect with listeners and consumers alike.

During my New York years, I was part of the fast-paced broadcast and advertising environment that defined major-market radio. As radio began to become more of a Wall Street commodity, I fled to the suburbs and helped launch an incredible rock station on the Jersey Shore, 95.9 The Rat, furthering my exposure to programming, marketing, and audience-driven radio in a competitive market. These experiences strengthened my ability to balance creativity with strategy, and to understand both the on-air and behind-the-scenes elements that drive successful media brands.

Colleagues from my NY radio days invited me to bring my professional experience to Annapolis, where I’ve been ever since…and I have remained active in both radio, media , advertising AND my community.

At WRNR, I continued my involvement in broadcast media, contributing to a station known for its community connection and thoughtful, insightful rock programming. Drawing on my major-market experience, I helped support efforts that were locally focused, authentic, and community-driven.

In 2017, I ventured out on my own and founded the Frances Marketing Group. The name, is a nod to my late mother who has been my inspiration, my toughest critic and my biggest fan! Every decision I make for the business and my clients are driven by passion to ensure I honor her name.

Thanks to Mom, I am deeply committed to volunteerism and community engagement. I proudly shared my time, skills, and expertise to support local organizations and initiatives, believing strongly in the power of communication to strengthen communities. My volunteer work reflects the same passion that has guided my professional career—connecting people, amplifying voices, and helping meaningful messages be heard. I serve as the Co-Chair of the Annapolis Police Foundation, have been “Sponsor Mom” to 150 Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, serve on the Board of the Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Annapolis Partnership (you might know me as “elfie”) and I’m also on the Annapolis 250 Commission, actively planning several dynamic events to celebrate the Semiquincentennial.
We are proud to manage the sponsorship opportunities connecting the USNA Alumni & Family with the local community, from Induction Day to the Anchors Aweigh Golf Tournament and all the other dynamic events in between!

Proud to be a graduate of Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship 22, and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Baltimore Cohort 23, and a member of an Annapolis BNI Chapter. as well.

From New York City’s iconic radio and advertising scene to my continued professional and volunteer contributions in Annapolis, my career is defined by creativity, versatility, and a lifelong dedication to media, marketing, and community connection.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
.After years working across advertising, media, and community-driven marketing, one thing has become crystal clear: marketing has never been louder—or more human—at the same time.

We’re operating in an era of constant noise. Audiences are overwhelmed with messages, platforms, and content competing for their attention every second of the day. As a result, traditional “more, faster, louder” marketing simply doesn’t work the way it once did. The brands and organizations that are breaking through now are the ones that understand connection matters more than scale.

Storytelling is back at the center of effective marketing—but not the polished, overproduced kind. Today’s audiences crave authenticity. They want to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you do what you do. That’s something I learned early in radio: listeners can hear the truth. If a message isn’t genuine, they tune out. That same principle applies across every channel today, from social media to advertising to community outreach.

Another major shift is the renewed importance of local and community-based marketing. While so many tools allow brands to reach global audiences, the most impactful marketing is often hyper-local and relationship-driven. People want to support businesses and organizations that show up, give back, and invest in the communities they serve. Marketing isn’t just about impressions anymore—it’s about presence.

I believe the future of marketing belongs to this one simple truth: people don’t engage with the brands—they engage with the people behind the brand. Our job is to help them connect.

As you know, we’re big fans of Frances Marketing Group, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Who Is Frances?

It’s usually the last question people ask—but it’s one we should probably answer first.

Frances is the heart behind everything we do. The values she instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are the same principles that guide this company every day.

Born during the Great Depression to immigrant parents, Frances was shaped early by resilience and a deep commitment to service. She lived a life rooted in giving back—both quietly and boldly.

A military spouse, community leader, and newspaper columnist, Frances devoted countless hours to causes she believed in. From the Board of Elections to the Girl Scouts and the PTA, her involvement was tireless. Known fondly as the “Polish Princess of fundraising,” she had a rare gift for bringing people together—and yes, she could throw one hell of a party.

Frances taught us to be fearless, determined, and resourceful. She lived by the Golden Rule and led with kindness, integrity, and grit. Above all, she taught us the true meaning of family and community.

So when people say, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” I humbly say—thank you.

What were you like growing up?
LOL, I am sooooooo different from my siblings!

I am the youngest of 4… a “change of life baby” so in many ways I grew up as an only child….my sibs were 16, 14, and 12 when I was born…

I’m certain they have completely fabricated memories of our parents. I was raised by my Mom, Frances….and as the youngest, I was Daddy’s Little Girl….my memories of Mommy & Daddy are completely off base from what my siblings say. They are wrong. I am right. I grew up more of an only child, as our dad passed away when I was 8, Mom had me when she was 42…so imagine, when I was 21 she was 63! Many of my nieces and nephews are closer to me in age than their parents. Its really cool to be honest…just had knee replacement surgery…my care takes over the last 2 weeks were my big sister and my 2 nieces.
