Hi T. L., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been an avid fan of fantasy and science fiction books. Reading is my go-to for relaxation after a hard day of work. I noticed a lack of diversity and wanted to write a book with diverse characters. As a mom to three sons, I also wanted a book with inspirational male characters. I launched my author career with the debut of Exiled No More, Exiled Elementals. I had no idea the book would reach readers around the world. It’s been a dream come true. I have four books in that series, with a special edition Kickstarter launching January 6-30, 2026. I also have one book published in a new dragon series.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was difficult to find time to write as a full-time international consultant and mom of three very busy sons. I was a soccer mom, baseball mom, and a church volunteer. I had very little time for myself. Then COVID hit, and my husband spent three weeks in the ICU. It changed our lives. When he finally came home, it was a reminder that life is short. It motivated me to make my dream come true and finally publish my book. I set aside dedicated days and hours to finish drafting my book, and I asked others for help. I published my book on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend that year, and it was the beginning of a new era in my life. I’m celebrating the anniversary of my author career with my special edition Kickstarter, where I’m making beautiful books as a way to give back.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an author of epic romantic fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction romance novels with memorable characters full of danger, love, and adventure. In my fast-paced books, you’ll fall in love with magical elementals, demigods, dragon riders, and Fae royals.
I’m the author of the bestselling Exiled Elementals Series. The series has won various awards, including the 2024 Book Excellence Award (Fantasy) and the 2024 PenCraft Winter Award (Fantasy). The series was also an Amazon Editor’s pick for Prime Reading in 2023. Her latest series, Destiny’s Hammer, Celestial Dragon Riders, will surely be a reader’s favorite.
I’m best known for writing diverse characters with inspirational stories. I’m very proud to be an independent author who writes diverse voices. I’m an African-American writer based in the Washington, D.C., area. One thing that sets me apart is that my book is one of the few books that features characters from the DMV area. Readers in Baltimore and D.C. love opening a book and feeling like they can relate to the characters.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m a risk taker. I believe the greater the risks, the better the rewards. However, risks must be considered seriously. I would only take risks if I’ve researched and done my homework to mitigate them. I also believe in asking others for help. It’s okay to not know something and to ask others who might have answers to support you.
