Rising Stars: Meet Laure-Edith Kabine of Gaithersburg, MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laure-Edith Kabine.

Laure-edith , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My background spans Psychology, Neuroscience, and Molecular Genetics. A life-changing experience led me to pivot from the medical field to pursue an MBA along with a graduate certificate in Project Management.

Although creativity had always been part of my life, it wasn’t until 2018—after a health scare caused me to lose a government contract position—that I fully embraced it. During that difficult season, I felt compelled to create with my hands. In that darkness, I felt God reminding me that I was enough, even when circumstances suggested otherwise.

Over time, demand for my creations grew. Today, Oblimiéh offers versatile clothing, accessories, and jewelry designed for weddings, fashion-forward executives, formal events, and even casual looks that deserve an elevated touch. Life happens, and no one can change that—but the beauty of the story lies in what you choose to do with the lemons.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. It has been filled with hills and valleys, twists and turns, and moments that felt like roadblocks. Yet every step was worth it, because each experience refined me as a creative. My journey did not break me—it strengthened me and brought my purpose into focus. I thank God for carrying me through it all.
As a mother, I continue to navigate the balance between being present in my children’s upbringing and participating in events locally and around the world to build the brand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder and Principal Designer of Oblimiéh, a rising luxury brand shining new light on African fabric patterns.
Sub-Saharan African fabric patterns have been shut out of formal wear for many years. So, Oblimiéh chose to break through the fashion barriers and offer wearable art pieces that infuse classic African cultural and traditional motifs into modern aesthetics to produce timeless fashion accessories that can easily be worn during casual, business, and formal events. Our accessories are designed to be worn by persons of any cultural background and skin tone.

We invest time and resources in being a socially responsible fashion brand that offers luxury where each custom product is truly unique in the world.
