Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Tudor.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My family in Baltimore dates back to British colonial times and this is where we’ve called home ever since. one of my great ancestors worked the garbage buggy in fells point and one day the horse acted up knocked him down and killed him. in 1984 while my mother was pregnant with me she was diagnosed with leukemia. Back then the success rate was very low and the odds were against us. There were 3 of us that year and unfortunately the other 2 were unsuccessful. They called me the miracle baby. The community came together for blood and platelet drives and the entire community was praying and rooting for us. Thanks to the experimental drug’s and the dedicated doctors at John’s Hopkins I was born premature but healthy. Because of that I hold Baltimore very close to my heart. I was raised to be humble, grateful and to return the blessing that i had received. I started learning HVAC when I was 17 years old. My father in law who has since passed brought me into the trade and taught me everything that he knew. He was a huge part of my career and is very much missed. I spent my life mastering the trade and becoming the best that i could be. I started Your HVAC Specialist because these large corporate companies made having a functioning heating and cooling system a luxury instead of the necessity that it is. The cost had become so unaffordable that people especially our seniors would go without. the hardest part of being employed for me was having to leave a widowed senior without heat in the winter because she couldn’t afford to pay to have it fixed. We are here to make a difference, we are a part of the community and we give back as much as we can. Being able to help someone out of an unfortunate situation and having them cry tears of joy and give you a hug makes it all worth it. We are trying to set an example and get it back to the days where businesses cared about the community and were a part of the community. I’m not in this alone we are a family operation from everyday operations to decisions everything is done as a family. You’ll even see Grandma Trish and Poppy Tudor at times. It’s pretty neat to see 3 generations working together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. The biggest struggle we’ve had is being found in an industry where giants own the market. Another challenge is competing against illegal and unlicensed companies that don’t have to follow the same rules and regulations that licensed companies have to. We’ve been blessed and build new relationships everyday. We can’t beat them in marketing but we can beat them with honesty and integrity. Our dream is not to be on every billboard and radio station like the giants that own the market our dream is to be able to fund things the community needs such as rec centers and parks.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a family owned and operated Heating and air conditioning company. We offer service, maintenance and installation.
How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say that we’ve had good or bad luck.
We have certainly had our ups and downs. No matter how bad I thought things may have seemed at times I always remained positive and reminded myself that it could have been much worse. Even during those times we continued to do what we do every other day and that’s being kind and honest. We believe that if you do the right thing no matter the situation that everything will work itself out.
