Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Williams.
Hi Adriana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From Rock Bottom to Pawtomac Paradise: How One Woman Built a Pet-Care Haven Out of Hope and Heart
When Adriana Williams launched Pawtomac Paradise in early 2022, she wasn’t chasing a dream—she was trying to survive. At the time, Adriana was struggling through one of the hardest chapters of her life. Her job left her unfulfilled and barely able to pay her bills. And then came the blow that changed everything: her beloved dog Max fell critically ill with a mysterious condition.
Determined to save him, Adriana spent every dollar she had—tens of thousands of dollars—on tests, treatments, and specialists. By the time Max stabilized, her savings were gone. She found herself sleeping on friends’ couches, living out of a suitcase, and wondering how she was going to pull herself out of the financial and emotional hole she had fallen into.
Then came a simple suggestion from a friend: Why not try walking dogs to bring in a little extra income?
What began as a side hustle—just a few dog walks squeezed in where she could—quickly ignited something in Adriana. She rediscovered a spark, a sense of joy and purpose that had long been missing. Walking dogs became more than a gig; it became the foundation of a vision she didn’t yet fully recognize. And soon, that humble beginning evolved into Pawtomac Paradise.
Max, the dog who inspired the entire journey, naturally became the face of the company. By mid-2022, Adriana had regained her footing and expanded her services, offering doggy daycare and boarding directly out of her home. Just two years later, in 2024, she made another bold leap forward—purchasing a property on nearly an acre of land in Fort Washington, Maryland. The new space, filled with fenced play areas, open grass, and room to grow, became the permanent home of Pawtomac Paradise.
Since then, Adriana has cared for hundreds of dogs from across the DMV, creating a boutique, family-style environment that pet parents rave about. And despite starting with nearly nothing, she achieved a milestone she once thought impossible: in her very first year of business, she made six figures.
Today, Max is 11 years old and in remission, enjoying life on the property with his two adopted sisters—both of whom, in true family fashion, are part of the daily daycare dynamics. Adriana still works with several of her original clients and recently celebrated hiring her first employee, a milestone that underscores just how far she’s come.
What began as a means of survival has transformed into something far more profound: a purpose-driven sanctuary built on compassion, resilience, and a deep love for animals. Pawtomac Paradise is more than a business—it’s the physical proof that even in our lowest moments, something beautiful can grow.
And every day, as Adriana watches the dogs play, rest, and thrive, she is reminded of how it all started—with one very special dog who needed her, and the journey that proved she needed him just as much.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of Adriana’s biggest challenges came when she made the decision to relocate Pawtomac Paradise from Alexandria, VA to Fort Washington, MD—a move that, while necessary for expansion, filled her with anxiety. She feared losing the clients who had supported her from the beginning and worried she might have to rebuild her entire business from the ground up. But the opposite happened. Thanks to the strong relationships she had nurtured and the trust she had earned, the vast majority of her clients stayed with her through the transition. Instead of shrinking, the business continued to grow, proving that the community she built was rooted not in location, but in the quality of care and connection she provides
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pawtomac Paradise?
Pawtomac Paradise is a small, home-based pet care business specializing in dog walking, daycare, and boarding. Because we intentionally keep our group small and focus on social, well-matched dogs, we’re able to offer a level of one-on-one attention and personalized care that’s hard to find in larger commercial facilities.
We operate on nearly an acre of land in Fort Washington, featuring three fully fenced grass play areas where dogs can safely run, explore, and socialize. Every dog in our care becomes part of our family. They sleep inside our home, enjoy supervised group play and enrichment activities during the day, and benefit from a calm, loving environment that mirrors the comfort of being at home.
Our home-style setup allows us to truly get to know each dog—their personalities, quirks, needs, and routines—and tailor our care to them. It’s not just pet care; it’s a boutique, relationship-based experience where every dog is treated like our own.
