Conversations with Shaina Fitzgerald

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaina Fitzgerald.

Hi Shaina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started writing when I was 13 years old, I learned about a free summer program in Hampden that offered modeling , writing and dance. So I begged my mother to allow me to catch the bus from northwest Baltimore and most of the time my grandmother would take me. The program was only for the summertime, but I learned so much , how to put words together and exploring a larger vocabulary to rhyme the words together. At the end of the program , we were able to perform some of the poems we wrote (photo included). I started buying writing books with my allowance and at first I didn’t think I was any good but I kept writing and got a lot better. By the time I got to high school , I graduated to writing short stories and poems in my free time after I finished my assignments during class. I even had some of my friends help me with my short stories . I got my first real job at 15 at Phillips Buffet and I found myself just writing poetry on any paper I could find , for example the waiting list for customers and pretty soon I had a trunk full of poems. Those pieces of paper inspired Dear WritersBlock, the book that I finally self published in February 2025. I was scared to put it out because I am a perfectionist and was afraid to be vulnerable out loud but I finally did it .

I attended Bowie State University for Print Journalism , which is a major I have always had a love for because I would collect magazines all through my childhood and realized I wanted to write for a living . In 2009, I opened my Blogspot account and used it to write my thoughts and some of my early poetry. However , I saw that others were using this site to start ‘blogging’ about celebrity news and as a big fan of the “Necole B*tchie”website I decided to take a stab at it .
In 2017 ,I started to take blogging seriously. I purchased the LovewritersBlock.Com domain and begin my journey as a blogger. I started to write about my favorite celebrities and fashion, and gaining an audience all around the world . Based on my Google stats , the blog has over 500k reads and averages about 250-500 reads per article. I continued my education in 2019 at University of Baltimore and received my Bachelors degree in Digital Communication with a focus in Media Writing .

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth ride but I’ve learned that growth rarely comes from comfort. There were times when I questioned my voice, my purpose, and whether my words really mattered. As a writer, you constantly battle self-doubt and vulnerability and sharing your truth means exposing pieces of yourself that not everyone will understand or appreciate. There were times where I wanted to stop blogging because some of my content was being erased from the Blogger site with a glitch on the website . I’d put alot of work into gathering all of my evidence to support my articles for them to be erased , so I took two years off and just getting my feet wet again as of the 4th quarter of 2024.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Through my poetry book Dear Writersblock , I have created a space for my audience to relate to my poems about love and the stages that I have been through and hopefully they can see themselves. I am known for my honesty and raw emotions in my writing . This allows a space for my readers to be vulnerable even if they never express it to me directly.

With LovewritersBlock.Com, I am giving in depth articles bout fashion and entertainment. From letting my readers know what to buy this season or what to keep in their closet, or a fashion editorial on their favorite style icons. I specialize in giving my readers the truth no matter how it may look from different perspectives. I am most proud of my book release because it has been years in the making and it’s like birthing a child and sharing her with the world. What sets me apart is the intentionality behind everything I create. I don’t just write for the sake of writing , I write to heal , to connect and to be as transparent as possible .

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
For me , risk taking is apart of growth there is no growth in being comfortable . I see myself as a risk taker because I had an interest in blogging and I built my content brick by brick down to my logo. I created my logo and webpage and just started writing , I never knew who it would reach but I had something to say . With my book , just releasing a product that you’ve self published and not knowing if anyone would even care about it or not . That’s a risk I was willing to take on myself .
