Community Highlights: Meet Vickie Gray of Vickie Gray Images LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Gray.

Hi Vickie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I took up photography in 2009. Art, architecture, and people were what I initially photographed. I loved cities and streetscapes, and candid people shots. Then I started taking portraits of people I knew. They liked them and started asking me to do their professional headshots and portraits.

I rented my first studio in 2015. It was in Graffiti Warehouse, a very cool industrial space in the Station North Arts District. Since then I’ve had three other studios, each one bigger and more professional than the last. My current studio is in Meadow Mill, a restored textile mill that sits alongside the Jones Falls.

Before I started my photography career I spent over 25 years as a legal marketer, managing the reputation, brand, and external image of high-profile law firms in DC, Philadelphia, NYC, and Miami as well as Baltimore. No other photographer in Baltimore has such a unique combination of corporate and creative experience.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been particularly bumpy, but it wasn’t exactly linear, either. I transitioned from my marketing to photography career over a period of years. I was fortunate to have understanding employers who didn’t mind that I had a business on the side. In fact, two of those firms are now a client.

I guess my biggest struggle now is learning how changes in technology, specifically AI, will affect my business. At the moment I’m not experiencing any reduction in bookings, but I’m continually educating myself on how I can leverage artificial Intelligence to work smarter and serve my clients better.
