Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Jose Cordero.
Hi Maria Jose, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We (Marjorie Hidalgo and Myself) started Mar Beauty Lounge because we wanted to create a space where clients could truly relax and feel taken care of while enjoying high quality and vegan nail services. Coming from a background in business management and customer service we saw an opportunity to combine our best skills to open our dream salon. After two long years of licensing and renovations we were finally able to open Mar in May 2025. It’s been a long road to get to where we are now but we couldn’t be happier with the results and all the support from our community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As first time business owners it was a long road to get to open the salon. It took us a little over two years from renting our dream space to be able to open but we wouldn’t change a thing. We learned valuable lessons during the process and we were more than prepared by the time we opened our doors.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the administrator of our small business, I take care of all the back end work as well as being the manager and front face of the business. I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work it took us to be able to open as well as all the work that came after, it’s been challenging but very rewarding to see our vision come to fruition and to have the support of all our amazing clients. I do believe that what sets us apart is that we care not only about our salon but about all our clients, without them we wouldn’t have been able to be where we are now.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’m a true believer that luck doesn’t play a role in life our business, all the results we have been able to witness in our business are a consequence of our hard work, not luck.
