Chardee Scott shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Chardee, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Hi everyone! I’m Chardee’ Scott, and lately, the greatest joy outside of work has been creating something just for myself. By day, I’m designing and managing multiple client projects, but recently I’ve been pouring my heart into illustrating my very own children’s book—a dream I’ve had since childhood. That dream is finally coming to life this month with the release of Puma Panda Parrot, Become Buddies, co-written and illustrated with my best friend of over 20 years, Ciarra Roulhac Smith.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the owner and lead designer of Pinch Design Co., a Black and woman-owned graphic design studio specializing in bold branding and custom websites. I love helping businesses tell their stories through visuals that are as unique as they are. This January 2026, we’ll be celebrating our 10th year in business—a milestone I’m incredibly proud of. And this year, I’m excited to add “author and illustrator” to my list of roles with the release of our children’s book, Puma Panda Parrot Become Buddies.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Becoming a mother has transformed how I see myself in ways I’m still uncovering. My daughter, Ava, motivates me to work hard—not just to reach my own goals, but to provide for her and be someone she can look up to. She’s taught me that I can continue to pursue my dreams while nurturing hers.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I was finally ready to create a children’s book, so I pitched the idea to my best friend, Ciarra—and she was in. What started as pure excitement eventually hit a creative wall, forcing me to step away for a bit. I underestimated the work that went into developing a storyline, sketching, and illustrating a book. Two years later, I found the courage to pick up my sketches again and see it through. Now, Puma Panda Parrot Become Buddies is finally here!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’ve been wholeheartedly committed to bringing my children’s book to life—a dream I’ve carried since childhood. After years of designing for others, I felt called to create something that could inspire and stay with young readers. Puma Panda Parrot Become Buddies celebrates the beauty of differences and the joy of unexpected friendships. It’s been a true labor of love, patience, and perseverance. Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m blessed to say I’m doing what I was born to do—helping others bring their businesses to life, using design to uplift my community, and creating children’s books that inspire connection, curiosity, and consciousness in the next generation. God gave me this gift, and I’ve found a way to use it to create good in the world.
