Exploring Life & Business with Jennifer Gordon of Allfirst Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Gordon.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

With over six years of experience as a full-time Realtor, I have proudly helped more than 100 families buy and sell homes throughout Maryland. My passion for real estate is deeply rooted in a commitment to helping individuals and families achieve homeownership and build generational wealth.

Originally from New York, I earned my graduate degree in Student Personnel Administration from Buffalo State College. My career began at Strayer University in Washington, D.C. which first brought me to the Maryland area. From there, I spent more than 25 years in higher education, serving in a variety of roles, including Assistant Director of Cultural Programs in the Diversity Office at Towson University, adjunct faculty at Towson University and American Public University, and Academic Advisor at Notre Dame University, Johns Hopkins University, and Towson University. My work focused on helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for growth.

In 2019, I felt called to make a different kind of impact—this time in my community. I made the intentional decision to pursue real estate, recognizing it as a powerful avenue to help people not only find homes but also create long-term stability and generational wealth. Transitioning from higher education to real estate took persistence, commitment, and focus. Over three years, I worked myself out of my full-time university career and built a thriving business in real estate.

Today, I draw on the skills and values I honed in higher education—listening, teaching, problem-solving, and advocating—to guide my clients through one of the most important financial and emotional decisions of their lives. My mission remains the same: to help others achieve their goals and create a future full of opportunity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

My path to real estate was anything but smooth. After leaving Towson University in 2006 to raise my three children, I struggled to return to the career in higher education I had worked so hard to build. I carried the mindset that I wasn’t being taken seriously anymore — that administrators didn’t see the value I brought to the table. This self-doubt showed up in interviews, and I bombed quite a few of them.

I knew I had to do the hard work internally. I committed myself to improving, to mastering the art of interviewing, and to rebuilding my confidence. Eventually, I was able to return to higher education and do good work again — but the passion I once had for the field was never quite the same.

During that time of raising children and redefining myself professionally, I also explored other possibilities. In 2012, I earned my real estate license. But between young kids and a full-time career, I couldn’t give it the attention it needed to take off. The timing just wasn’t right.

Still, the seed was planted. I knew one day I wanted to make an impact in the community in a different way — by helping people own homes and create generational wealth. That dream stayed with me, waiting for the right moment. And in 2019, I finally gave myself permission to pursue it fully. It took three years of persistence and careful transition to move into real estate full-time, but once I did, there was no looking back.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my fondest childhood memories are of our holiday celebrations with my extended family, especially at my grandparents’ home. My grandfather would captivate us with his stories, while my aunt would gather us around to read aloud. Surrounded by love, laughter, and tradition, those moments left me with a deep sense of family and belonging that I will always cherish.
