SYP Foundation of Baltimore on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to SYP Foundation. Check out our conversation below.

Hi SYP, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
The ground work to keep SYP available to service the community for many years to come. There are a lot of behind the scenes steps that must be taken to keep us sustainable, and we put forth a lot of effort to keep our purpose going.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are the SYP Foundation. A non profit based out of Baltimore MD dedicated to financial literacy, community service and scholarship. We have been working diligently to build strong partnerships with students, educators and many more within our community.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Failing to follow through on your word is a key aspect of breaking a bond. With us being a change agent in the community, a lot of individuals bank on us to provide services, insight and support. If we fail to stand true on our promises, our community will stop believing in us.

You restore those bonds, by letting your actions do the talking. Follow through on your commitments and encourage through positive reinforcement, as a way to teach kids healthy and good habits.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Accepting that setbacks are apart of the process to turn the tide from a good organization to a great one. We were experiencing very challenging times at one point and it was so important to remind ourselves that we must stay grounded, believe in our principles and remain consistent.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Being faithful in little things will allow you to remain and be faithful in big things.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
We continue to put on and facilitate events for the kids and students of our community, and seeing their faces light up while exhibiting joy, is a feeling like none other. We simply love it.
