Chef Meek shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Chef, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I am presently enrolled in guitar lessons and thoroughly enjoying the experience. A private chef and I share an interest in playing the guitar. It is a commendable achievement, if I do say so myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
With Meek Meals, my company, I merge my skills as a private chef, personal chef, caterer, and culinary artist to provide refined food lovers with exceptional 5-star quality meals. As Celebrity Chef Meek, I guarantee that clients will enjoy an extraordinary culinary experience, marked by flawless presentation and exceptional flavor, when they book with us. Since being featured on Fox5’s lunch hour segment, business has flourished, thanks to the opportunity to showcase my cooking skills live on television. Additionally, I am working on a cookbook, and information about the book release party will be announced soon.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my mom. She is the definition of hard work and dedication. When my mentor my uncle, Chef Thomas passed away, my mom stepped in without hesitation to support me and help run my business. She’s always shown me what resilience looks like. I’ve never seen her give up on anything whether it’s marriage, friendships, work, or me, her daughter. Her strength and unwavering support have deeply influenced who I am today.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me patience, humility, and perspective things success never could. When everything is going right, it’s easy to feel in control. But it’s in the hard moments, when things fall apart, that I truly learned who I am. I learned how to keep going when there’s no applause, how to rebuild when I feel broken, and how to trust myself even in silence. Suffering taught me to appreciate the smallest victories and to stay grounded, no matter how far I rise. Success shows you what’s possible but suffering shows you what you’re made of.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in my industry is that passion is enough to succeed. Yes, you have to love what you do, but love doesn’t pay invoices, organize events, or carry 50-pound trays up the stairs. People see the finished product beautiful plates, happy clients, but they don’t see the sleepless nights, the endless prep, or the pressure of running a business behind the scenes. Another myth? That talent guarantees success. In this world, consistency, reliability, and your ability to adapt under pressure matter way more than a perfect recipe.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
No one ever told me to become a chef I followed my own passion because I love cooking more than anything. It’s never been about meeting someone else’s expectations, but about doing what feels right for me. Cooking is how I express myself and connect with people, and that’s why I truly believe I’m doing what I was born to do.
