An Inspired Chat with Kimberly Okolieaboh of Downtown

We recently had the chance to connect with Kimberly Okolieaboh and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am building my holistic coaching and consulting firm. I am creating an online presence with brand new websites. I am creating new digital products and carving out space for content creation on several platforms. I’m excited to get it all organized and ready so I can share it with the world. I want to increase my influence by building a brand that impacts the lives of others in a powerful, positive and transformative way.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kim Afreeka—Clinical Social Worker, Holistic Life Coach, and Business Consultant with a heart for healing and a mind for strategy. I am the founder of Kismet Life International- a coaching and consulting firm.

For over 17 years, I’ve guided ambitious, high-achieving individuals through deep life transitions—helping them balance personal power, emotional clarity, and purposeful leadership.

I am now expanding my firm to have more of an online presence and to reach more people with my god given talents and gifts and have a larger impact on the world.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My grandmother Annie Pearl, she was born in 1918 in South Carolina. She moved to New York as most southern blacks did seeking better opportunities and less racial oppression. She became a nurse and worked around the clock, she brought a home for her large family of 8 children, even though everyone thought she was crazy even my grandfather Roosevelt. She went on to purchase more real estate and even a vacation home in Jamaica. After retirement she got into travel and retail. She always explored different ways to generate income. She held family meetings and ran a Susu, with her adult children, which is a communal saving program. She had a team of lawyers, an an estate plan. When she passed, she had perfect credit. She showed me discipline, dedication and courage. She taught me the power in diversification and building a strong team and supportive network. She was my shero.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of leaving someone behind. I suffered with survivors remorse. I was informally adopted and was given a more stable, supportive and unconditionally loving home life, while my siblings were bounced around in different family homes and foster care. I felt deeply guilty and once I became an adult I worked hard to bring us all together. I became a foster mother to my younger siblings at the age of 19. I dropped out of college to care for them. Once I stopped feeling overly responsible for everyone around me and stopped trying to fix all the perceived wrongs around me. My load got lighter and I started to feel more grounded in myself and able to do and be more productive and peaceful in my own life.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Freedom, “Be Free” is my signature closing on all my social media reels and in my business. Freedom to be happy, to be prosperous, to be yourself as yourself. Free from unnecessary pain and suffering, free from fear and judgment, Free from the past and the future, free to live in the moment. Free from limitations and the need to please or impress others. Free to travel, to explore, wander and be adventurous. Free to rest and relax and do nothing. Free to enjoy your life with whoever and however you choose. Free to love and be love with kindness and compassion. Free to create and express yourself with courage and confidence. Freedom from doubt, guilt, shame and self hatred. Freedom to smile genuinely. Freedom to give without looking for anything in return. Freedom to critically think and take action. Freedom to love and fully accept yourself unconditionally.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That there is an infinite intelligence within you and if you tap into it – if you plug into that source, that higher frequency, you will tap into infinite possibilities, knowledge and potential. It’s an energetic and emotive engagement. This force will be your co-creator and copilot on this relative journey we call life here on this earthy plane. With this ethereal experience you can reach heights and create a world for yourself and those close to you that you only could have imagined in your wildest of dreams. It’s worth taking the time to tap in and plug in.
