Shannel Pearman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Shannel, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel called to continue sharing my story and spreading awareness, even though it was scary after my stroke in 2019. At first, I was very vocal about maternal health, stroke, and invisible disabilities, but I struggled with my mental health and had to step back. Through prayer and therapy, I’m in a better space now and ready to use my experience to help others feel less alone and raise awareness. It’s not always easy, but I know this is what I’m meant to do.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Shannel Pearman, a former TV news reporter turned content creator. I share my journey as a stroke survivor, advocate for maternal health and invisible disabilities, and highlight family lifestyle and travel. My goal is to inspire, educate, and connect with others through real stories and awareness.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that truly reshaped how I see the world was surviving my stroke. It has impacted everything I do and completely changed the lens through which I view life. While I considered myself a good person before, the experience has deepened my empathy, understanding, and compassion for others. I have learned to extend grace in ways I never thought possible. At the same time, I have been awakened to the harsh realities in my communities, the lack of resources and information to truly support people, which has fueled my passion for spreading awareness. Now my focus is using my platform to educate, inspire, and raise awareness, while also fully embracing life and holding fiercely to the people I love, knowing just how fragile life truly is
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
What I miss the most are the simple things in life I used to take for granted. I miss being able to see fully, waking up and seeing the world clearly without my vision loss and blind spots. I wish I could see my husband and son’s full faces again, and my daughter’s full face for the first time. I miss waking up early to watch the sunrise. As a former morning reporter, that was my favorite part of the job, being out while most were still asleep, listening to the stillness and calm before the day began, and watching the sky light up. I also miss driving, the effortless freedom of just hopping in the car and going. It is the little things like these that I miss the most.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural values I protect at all costs are family and community. As a first-generation Guyanese, staying close to my loved ones, supporting each other, and maintaining strong bonds is deeply important to me. These values shape how I live my life, raise my children, and engage with the world around me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m with my family on vacation, creating beautiful memories together. Those moments of laughter, connection, and shared experiences allow me to fully relax and appreciate the joy of being present with the people I love most.
