Katy, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I feel joy every minute of every day! Energy is everything–and it sets the tone for your life and every facet of it. Having a positive disposition is a superpower that is brilliantly contagious. Sharing a warm smile or a kind word can immediately brighten one’s day and increase the likelihood that they will do the same. Best of all, it’s totally free!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the creative heart behind Le Chateau de Crystale Events, an event design company based in beautiful Bethesda, MD. We specialize in high-end wedding and corporate event design, curating stunning, one-of-a-kind experiences that leave a lasting impression. From lavish floral installations to sleek corporate soirées, every detail is carefully crafted to reflect style, sophistication and just the right amount of sparkle–down to the very last crystal. (It’s in our name!)
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Of course, my dad, Dr. Yousef Daneshvar. A brilliant cardiologist, inventor and human being who I am blessed to share DNA with. I still find random things that amaze me every time I visit— a return letter from the Vatican tucked away in a book or a stack of poems he’s written my mom. He will never admit to his greatness; he just is.
Also, my friend, the unstoppable Hedieh G. As the Chief Floral Designer at the White House, she operates at the very pinnacle of excellence where there is simply no higher bar. I’ve had the distinct honor of watching her design for some of the world’s most prestigious events and she continually fuels the vision I hold for Le Chateau de Crystale Events.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to take the leap of self-employment sooner. Like a favorite quote by Charlie Wardell: a bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings. I’ve been blessed with a fierce intrinsic motivation and that fire that has always propelled me forward.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I launched a program called Chateau Shares, which donates flowers to hospital patients. The idea bloomed from my time at the White House where I witnessed on a remarkable scale the profound way flowers can change lives. In those high-pressure environments, even on the most demanding days, the sight of a beautifully arranged bouquet could soften the atmosphere, spark conversation and shift energy in ways words never could.
I came to understand that this magic can extend beyond grand events and distinguished guests to the hands of those who need it most. Through Chateau Shares, we’ve been privileged to bring that same joy and comfort to patients, offering a gentle reminder that even in life’s most challenging moments, beauty and hope can still blossom—one arrangement, one smile, one uplifted spirit at a time.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Don’t work just for money. When you work from the heart, not only does your sincerity shine through but you earn rewards far more valuable and differentiating. Pride, personal growth, reputation—these are currencies far more valuable than money. Serve others as you would want to be treated and focus on excellence. The road is long and the wind will always be at your back.
