Check Out Kayleigh Burton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayleigh Burton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been behind the chair as a stylist/master barber for almost 20 years. I have taught for major color and product lines as well as mentored numerous apprentices over the years. I decided to open a young talent based salon, offering free education to up and coming artists. We are constantly focused on continuing education. We offer a large array of services to a diverse array of clients, in a warm and inviting space. We are queer and female owned, LGBTQIA friendly, and service all types of hair and skin.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding the right space. We had a subleased space that didnt work out, due to a corrupt landlord, and ultimately decided to build out our own location. Finding the right staff took time, but we are fully staffed and on a roll!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Personally I enjoy every aspect of the hair industry. I love customizing styles for my clients. Learning about our clients, and their lifestyles help us cater to them better. Creative color and lived in color is my specialty. Razor cutting, barbering, extensions. All are well within my wheelhouse. It’s really about paying attention to the clients needs and features. Making them fedl comfortable, confident, and seen.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The industry has changed a lot since I was first starting out however, because I work with young talent who are just starting to build their books, I definitely have learned a lot about the current industry. Social media is huge, branding yourself behind the chair and online. Staying professional always. Pushing yourself do learn and perform services you didnt think you could. Show up, work hard and often in the beginning. Make your face known and your work known. You never know who’s looking.
