Community Highlights: Meet Lyna Nguyen of Lyna Beauty & Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyna Nguyen.

Hi Lyna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the world of beauty began in Vietnam, where I built a successful permanent makeup business over the course of three years. My training was deeply intensive — focused on real hands-on practice, artistic precision, and detailed technique.

Then, love brought me to the U.S. I met my husband, Matt Keenan, and decided to leave behind everything I had built in Vietnam to start a new life with him in 2019. It was not easy — I arrived with no English, no friends, no family, and a brand new culture to navigate. Shortly after that, I became a mother to my daughter, Elena. Today, I have two children. Balancing motherhood while starting over professionally in a new country was one of the hardest challenges I’ve faced.

One of my biggest hurdles was the language barrier. To become licensed in Virginia, I had to complete 200 hours of training, pass a bloodborne pathogen course, and then take a 170-question exam entirely in English. It pushed me to the limit, but I passed — and that moment proved to me that I could overcome anything.

In contrast, I noticed that in the U.S., permanent makeup training is often much shorter — sometimes only 3 to 5 days and mostly online, with limited hands-on practice. That’s where my background gives me an edge. My training in Vietnam gave me years of real client experience, in-depth technique, and an artistic eye that goes beyond standard procedures.

I’ve returned to Vietnam many times to keep up with the latest trends, refine my skills, and bring the newest techniques back to my clients. Over the years, I’ve been honored with numerous awards, including:
• Top 10 Golden Hand Awards for Asian Beauty
• Best Face of the PMU Contest 2018
• Businesswoman in Talent for Permanent Makeup
• Judge at International Master Beauty Award 2019
• Lead Trainer at Micro-Strokes Workshop (since 2020)

My work and story have been featured in leading beauty publications in Vietnam, including Ngôi Sao Đẳng Cấp and Master Beauty Awards.

Today, I run Lyna Beauty & Clinic in Frederick, Maryland. My clients travel from all over — some even fly in — because they know they’ll be seen, understood, and taken care of. What I offer isn’t just beauty. It’s transformation, confidence, and self-love.

Every scar, every setback, and every step I’ve taken has led me here. And I’m just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not — it hasn’t been a smooth road.

When I moved to the U.S. in 2019, I had to start over from zero — new language, new culture, and no one knew who I was. Even though I had years of experience and reputation in Vietnam, here I was just a beginner again.

I didn’t have a marketing team, a big platform, or local connections. I grew my business through the most genuine way: by focusing 100% on making each client happy. One happy client led to another. And step by step, people started to notice.

Today, my Facebook page has over 5,100 likes and 6,500 followers, with 606 glowing 10/10 reviews and a 100% recommendation rate. On Google, in just two years, I’ve received 327 five-star reviews — all organic, with no paid ads.
It’s taken hard work, consistency, and heart — and I’m proud of every step.

Even though I’m still building my name in the U.S., these milestones remind me that I’m on the right path. Slow growth with integrity is better than fast growth without meaning. And this is just the beginning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lyna Beauty & Clinic?
At Lyna Beauty & Clinic, we believe beauty is deeply personal — it’s not about trends or perfection, it’s about bringing out the best version of yourself.

Located in Frederick, Maryland, my clinic specializes in permanent makeup — particularly my signature hairstroke technique for eyebrows, which is what I’m most known for.

Unlike traditional microblading, my hairstroke technique does not involve cutting the skin. It’s a more advanced, skin-friendly approach that works beautifully for all skin types — including mature, sensitive, or oily skin. It creates ultra-fine, realistic strokes that blend seamlessly with natural brow hairs. The result? Brows that look so natural, even under close inspection — soft, elegant, and never overdone.

Clients often say, “It looks like real hair!” — and that’s the biggest compliment. Many people come to me because they’re afraid of the old-school tattooed brows. But when they see my work, they change their minds. Some even travel across state lines just to get their eyebrows done here.

What sets my work apart isn’t just the result, but the process. I take time to map out the brows precisely based on each client’s unique face shape and bone structure. I focus on making the client feel safe, heard, and understood — especially those who’ve lost their brows due to alopecia, aging, or medical reasons.

Even though I’m still new to the U.S. market, my hairstroke work has helped me grow a strong reputation. My Facebook page now has over 6,500 followers with 606 glowing recommendations, and on Google, we’ve received 327 five-star reviews in just two years — all 100% organic.

I was trained intensively in Vietnam, where we practiced deeply on real models and focused on high-level technique. This hands-on foundation gave me an edge in both skill and artistic eye, which I now bring to serve my clients in the U.S.

At Lyna Beauty & Clinic, beauty is not one-size-fits-all. It’s tailored, delicate, and done with heart. That’s what I want people to know about my brand.

What makes you happy?

What makes me happy is seeing my clients look in the mirror and smile — not just because their eyebrows or lips look beautiful, but because they feel beautiful.
That transformation — when someone gains confidence, when they feel seen and radiant again — that moment makes all the struggles and long days worth it.

I came to the U.S. not long ago, starting over in a new country, new language, and new market. It hasn’t been easy. But what keeps me going and brings me joy every single day is doing what I love — using my hands, my art, and my heart to help people feel more confident, more themselves.

I’m also happy when my kids see me working hard for what I believe in. I want them to know that it’s okay to start from zero, that dreams take time, and that effort always pays off — especially when it’s driven by passion.

So, what makes me happy? It’s knowing that I’m doing something meaningful — for others, and for myself.
One of the most meaningful parts of my work has been working with cancer survivors. Many of them have lost their eyebrows and lashes during treatment, and I can feel their emotional pain just by the way they look into the mirror. Being able to restore what they lost — and watching their faces light up with confidence and joy again — is an honor I never take lightly. For them, this isn’t just beauty. It’s healing.

At Lyna Beauty & Clinic, we don’t just enhance appearances. We help people feel whole again.
