Check Out Alana Oglesby’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Oglesby.

Hi Alana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
How I started ? Well, looking back, one day one of my old co workers came to me saying I should start a blog. I’m like blog ? For what? She’s goes about you. Me: why? Her: Because people would love to know about how your style and things you go to. This was back in 2017. Instagram was way different then. I was in my early twenties. working in the radio industry at the time. One of my first jobs in DC.

My coworker would always ask me about where to go and always say how much she loves my fashion at work and motivated me to create a blog about my lifestyle and things I go to. I wasn’t sure on how to start it or what to do, but one day o woke up and put on an outfit and went to mural in DC and just would take picture of myself in front of the mural. Next, I would do it again. I had in mind certain places in the city that people wouldn’t pay attention to or would just walk past. Eventually, I would post the places and outfits I wear while there. This created most asking me “Where am I” or What I’m wearing several times. I made my IG name to Wear To Find H.E.R sort of like a play on words. You know, where and wear. But also like Where To find you’d find me. Based on certain gems..it can be travel and interests. Also I felt like a Carmen San Diego which was one of my favorite games and shows I used to watch when I was younger. So, I would intentionally wear something to where I was going and would people try to figure it out where. Fashion is one of my passions along with creating and being able to bring it together has been amazing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course no journey is easy or smooth. It takes time. I never knew was I essentially doing in the beginning, but learning as the days went on. I loved showing all of the fun things I knew about and go to. However, things weren’t always the easiest to get to. I used to go to NY all of the time because I loved going to the pop ups. I would literally use spend so much money on going back and forth to NY just to make content to show and share about. I would have so much fomo when I couldn’t make pop up or events and even when it came to attending events. I would continuously feel like I’m alway missing out on something and not doing my job of capturing content. I loved showing everything, but would be financially in bad shape from it .

There were also so many nights I would be up editing and posting so much I’d lose track of time. Doing both my day job and creating at night.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
By day, I’m an accountant. I’ve been in accounting for 10 years. However, thru my career, I’ve worked in many media companies in the finance/accounting departments. I believe this truly sparked my love for media and content creation. From the advice from My co worker to learning the realms of media and communications. From this, I was able to capture and talk about the events I attended to even going and showing local events, to doing solo adventures in the city and doing travel/food recommendations. I’ve been known for always providing great reccs and fashion advice from my content . When I first started my blog, I would post events in DC & NY. Also, would give a capsule list of fashion pieces to show and suggest looks and provide places I shop as well. For everyone to know where to shop and find events.

I would say I’m most proud of finding my creative eye and voice . Feel like having my creative eye allowed me to showcase my creativity and show off the gems in dc and where and whatever in my lense. From undiscovered murals at metropolitan branch trail to hidden gem restaurants to travel wanderlust. I love having influence to having people want to come to page and ask for reccs and want my opinion or expertise. It truly makes me happy when people ask me about where to go, fashion advice and just recommendations.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many ways to collaborate or work with me! For brands and businesses, I offer services like social media partnerships, styling, photoshoots, and sponsored content. Honestly, I love bringing a vision to life—sometimes even more when it’s for other brands than for myself. I enjoy curating concepts, creating campaigns, and helping people and businesses tell their story through visuals, style, and social content.

Whether it’s helping a brand with creative direction for a shoot, styling a campaign, or developing content that connects with an audience in an authentic way—that’s where I thrive.

If you’re interested in collaborating, you can reach out to me directly on Instagram at @WearToFindH.E.R or send me an email. I’m always open to creative partnerships that make sense and feel aligned
