Meet Arrev of Prince George’s County, MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arrev.

Hi Arrev, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My musical journey started at a very young age- I’ve been signing for as long as I can remember, and then I started playing the piano at a place called “back to basics music academy” at 7 years old which led to me deciding to really take singing more seriously and take singing lessons there as well for about 2 1/2 years. After that, I began playing the violin and learning how to read music notes up until I was 13 years old. From then I was in 2 choirs during highschool. Fast forward to 2019, I was surprised with a studio recording session for my birthday and ever since then I’ve been writing and singing my own music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can say that it’s been a fairly smooth road- the biggest struggle for me is when I’m doing features or collaborations- trying to match a schedule that works for everyone and trying to figure out how exactly you want to sound on the song as a unison is not as easy as a finished song makes it seem.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/ songwriter but I am mostly known for singing. My biggest accomplishment thus far is dropping my first project in 2020- my EP “mood swingz”. When it comes to creating a project, forming the songs, the sequence that you want them in on the project, and doing all of this within a timeframe that you created for the project is not easy! What sets me apart from others is the sound of my voice- from the raspiness yet rich tone between my range from alto to soprano and I am not just good in one genre of music but several including pop, hip hop, r&b and also a genre from my hometown the DMV called “Go-Go”. Being able to not just keep myself in one genre/ style of music definitely sets me apart from other artists.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think the biggest way to network is to find other creatives at music events and shows in your area that are open to the public. I also recommend finding studios in your area to connect with different producers and engineers.
