_____________________________________________________________________
I didn’t take the traditional path to leadership—I created my own.
At 19, I started out as a dental hygienist. No silver spoon. No fast track. Just a sharp eye for people and a deep desire to help. Back then, I didn’t realize I was developing my superpowers—reading the room, managing discomfort, and helping people feel safe in vulnerable moments.
I wasn’t the straight-A student. I wasn’t drawn to school. But I was always watching—how power moved, who got heard, and who got silenced. I saw what others missed. That was the beginning of my leadership education.
Over the years, I climbed through the ranks of higher education and eventually became a college president. On paper, it looked like I had made it. But inside, I was shrinking to fit a mold that never felt right. I was modeling leadership after the white men around me—measured, reserved, emotionally detached. I wore the suit, but it never quite fit.
Then came the shift.
When I moved into employee development training, I had a wake-up call. I wasn’t just delivering content—I was shifting energy. People weren’t just learning, they were unlocking. That’s when I discovered facilitation. It gave me language for something I had done intuitively my entire life: guiding people from confusion to clarity, from tension to trust.
That was the birth of The Leadership Guru. I didn’t name myself as my clients did. Because what I brought to the room wasn’t just structure. It was soul. It wasn’t just answers. It was alignment.
Since then, I’ve delivered thousands of hours of facilitation and leadership training to corporate teams, government agencies, and mission-driven leaders. I’ve helped executive teams reconnect, guided organizations through chaos, and turned burned-out meetings into breakout moments.
Because here’s what I know:
Facilitation is not a soft skill. It’s a strategic one.
It’s the million-dollar meta-skill that moves missions, builds trust, and shapes culture.
And let me say this clearly:
Mastering facilitation is no longer optional—it’s a requirement.
If you want to be all you can be in today’s world—professionally and personally—you must know how to guide people, hold space, and move conversations forward.
It’s the difference between performing leadership and embodying it.
This isn’t just business for me. It’s personal.
I’ve seen women use facilitation to resolve family conflicts, set boundaries, negotiate with clarity, and reclaim their power. I’ve used it to rebuild not just my business—but my sense of purpose. It gave me the tools to hold space for others—and, finally, for myself.
Today, I teach others how to lead with intention, ask better questions, and design brain-friendly meetings that spark momentum. Whether it’s my Leadership Bird Quiz, the Meeting Detox Checklist, or my Facilitate Like a Pro masterclass—I equip people to rise.
People often ask what’s next. My answer is simple:
I want to ignite a national movement that places facilitation at the center of leadership, equity, and legacy. Because in a world full of burnout and broken communication, fixing the meeting can fix the mission.
I’m not here to lead the room—I’m here to light it

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

**Absolutely not. It’s been anything but smooth—but that’s where the magic lives.**

My journey has had more pivots than a strategy session. I started off in a field I didn’t plan—dental hygiene—just to have a steady job. I didn’t have the ideal academic record or a family legacy of leadership. I had doubt, detours, and moments where I questioned everything.

And when I finally climbed into leadership roles, I didn’t feel free—I felt *boxed in*. I was constantly trying to shrink or sanitize myself to fit into professional spaces that weren’t designed for women like me—especially not Black women who lead with emotional intelligence and presence.

People told me I was “too much.” Too bold. Too expressive. Too powerful. And for a while, I believed them.

I also struggled financially, especially in the early days of launching my business. I invested thousands of dollars in things that didn’t deliver. I faced rejection, had contracts fall through, and learned the hard way that being great at what you do is not enough—you also have to know how to *position* it.

But every setback sharpened my skills. Every “no” refined my voice. And every struggle helped me build the toolkit I now teach others to use.

I had to **unlearn performance and reclaim authenticity**. I had to **stand in rooms that weren’t built for me and build a space anyway**. That’s what makes my facilitation real. I don’t just talk about leading through the messy middle—I’ve lived it.

And that’s why I say today: **you don’t need perfect conditions to rise—you need purpose, presence, and a process.**

**The Leadership Guru, LLC is not just my business—it’s my calling.**

I created The Leadership Guru to fix what so many organizations were tolerating: broken meetings, surface-level leadership, and burnt-out teams. Today, my firm is known for transforming how people meet, communicate, and lead.

I specialize in **brain-friendly, human-centered facilitation**—designed to shift energy, build trust, and move people from confusion to clarity. Whether I’m facilitating a strategy retreat, coaching an executive team, or teaching leaders how to own their voice, my work focuses on creating *real-time transformation* in the room.

At The Leadership Guru, we help people lead better—by teaching them how to **facilitate better**. Because facilitation is not a soft skill—it’s a *mega skill*.
We offer:

💡 **What I’m Known For**

I’m known for lighting up the room.
Not by commanding it—but by creating space where people feel seen, heard, and ready to rise.

Clients trust me because I don’t just run a meeting—I redesign how people gather. I bring tools, insight, and energy that unlock movement. I’m known for:

* Creating **clarity and connection** in high-pressure moments
* Designing **meetings that move missions**, not just agendas
* Using **Process-Based Facilitation** to make strategy sessions actually *productive*
* Blending humor, structure, and depth in every engagement
* Teaching leaders how to lead from the center—not just the front—of the room

When I step into a space, people stop performing and start participating. That’s the shift I’m known for.

🔥 **What Sets My Brand Apart**

**The Leadership Guru** is more than a name—it’s a **standard**.

It’s a standard for how leaders should show up.
It’s a standard for what meetings can accomplish.
It’s a standard for how trust is built, scaled, and sustained in every room.

What sets me apart is that I don’t lead with ego—I lead with empathy and excellence. I don’t just deliver content—I shift culture. I blend **structure and soul** so that people don’t just *attend*—they engage, grow, and transform.

🌟 **What I’m Most Proud Of**

What I’m most proud of is that my brand helps people lead with their *whole selves*. I help people realize that they’re not “too much”—they’re just enough to lead the room, change the culture, and build a legacy.

And I’ve built a brand where **Black women, bold thinkers, and brilliant teams** feel empowered to lead in a way that’s authentic, effective, and aligned with who they really are.

**Facilitation gave me the tools to hold space for others—and finally, for myself. Now I teach others to do the same.**

📣 **What I Want Your Readers to Know**

If your meetings feel draining…
If your leaders are burned out…
If your team is missing trust, alignment, or momentum…

**The Leadership Guru is your next call.**

We don’t just “talk” leadership—we *facilitate* transformation.
We don’t just move through the agenda—we move *people*.
And we do it with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

Because I’m not here to lead the room.
**I’m here to light it up.**

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?

As I move through the journey of building my business, I make it a point to find the *right* people—those who are doing meaningful work, those I can learn from, and those who align with my purpose. I ask questions, reach out, and follow up. I don’t just collect contacts—I build real connections. Whether I’m in a meeting, at an event, or just scrolling online, I’m always thinking, “Who do I need to know, and who needs to know me?”

At the same time, I show up for others. I make space for conversations, share what I know, and offer support—even when it’s not convenient. I believe in reciprocity and the power of being present. Because this isn’t just about business—it’s about community, intention, and trust. The relationships I’m building aren’t just helpful—they’re often transformative. And that’s something I never take for granted.
