Today we’d like to introduce you to Symone Barnes.
Hi Symone, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in both modeling and cooking about a year apart. I discovered my love for cooking at 15, and by 16, I had my first modeling shoot. I can’t say I hit the ground running in either field, and honestly, I’m still not exactly where I want to be—but I know I’m on the right path, and it’s only up from here.
Throughout the ups and downs, passion has been my anchor—even when consistency was hard to maintain. I’ve been fortunate to have a support circle that pushes me beyond my limits, especially during times when I didn’t have the strength to push myself.
In October 2020, I launched Meraki Foodz, which marked a big step forward in my culinary career. Then, just a couple of months later in December 2020, I made the decision to step back in front of the camera, reigniting my modeling journey after focusing solely on being a chef.
Both paths have shaped me in different ways, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come—and excited for where I’m headed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has the road been smooth? Not at all. The answer is a firm no—but giving up has never been an option for me.
There have been moments where the obstacles felt bigger than the opportunities. Times when it seemed like I was putting in all the work, all the energy, and still not seeing the results I wanted. There were seasons of doubt, inconsistency, and burnout—especially juggling two completely different industries like culinary and modeling. Both come with their own challenges, expectations, and pressures. And navigating them while still trying to grow as a person hasn’t been easy.
There were days I questioned if I was good enough. Days I wanted to pause everything, and days where it felt like I was running on empty. But even in those moments, I never let the thought of quitting take root. I’ve always had this internal fire, this belief that where I come from doesn’t determine where I can go.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a chef and a model—but at the core, I’m a creator and a servant at heart.
As a chef, I specialize in creating intimate dining experiences. From curating the ambiance with detailed room setups to preparing multi-course meals (usually 3 to 5 courses), I provide not just food, but an experience that’s both personal and memorable. Every plate I serve is crafted with intention, because I believe food is one of the most powerful ways to connect with people.
This work also funds something very close to my heart—Fed by Grace, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit I’m in the process of building. The goal is to bring this initiative to the Baltimore area, where I’ll provide food, clothing, and care to the homeless and those in need. It’s the heart of everything I do. My business is the engine—but the mission is the destination.
In modeling, I bring the same level of dedication and authenticity. Whether I’m in front of the camera or curating a concept, I strive to bring emotion, story, and strength into each shoot. I don’t just show up to pose—I show up to embody something real.
What I’m most proud of is the “why” behind all of it. I don’t move through these spaces for financial gain alone—I move with purpose. Every client I serve, every person I reach, is part of something bigger than me. That’s what sets me apart. My vision has always been rooted in impact. I’m not just building a brand—I’m building a legacy that feeds bodies, minds, and souls.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is impact. Whether I’m cooking, modeling, or building my nonprofit, it’s never just about the work—it’s about how that work touches others. I’m driven by purpose, not profit. I want everything I do to make someone feel seen, fed, valued, and loved. That’s the legacy I’m building.
