Today we’d like to introduce you to Synia Slater.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I launched my business in 2022 while working a 9-5, a part-time job, and attending school full-time — all while navigating my early 20s. I’ve always had a passion for hair, just not from behind the chair. Since childhood, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I’ve never liked being told what to do and I want to retire my mom and provide a freedom-filed life without having to live the American Dream and work until my late 50s.

In 2020, during COVID, I started doing my own hair and thought about selling hair extensions. But I didn’t feel educated enough, so I held back. Eventually, my hair began to fall out from using toxic products. After trying everything, I partnered with a licensed cosmetologist who helped me restore it naturally. Once I saw the results, I knew I had to share it. I found a private lab to bottle and label my formulas — and my natural haircare brand was born.

At the same time, I created an edge control after the brand I loved stopped producing theirs. I combined my hair growth oil formula with edge control features and developed the Fearless Firm Edge Control — all-natural, long-lasting, and growth-promoting edge control. I had never seen anything like it and knew it was time to release both products to the world. In March 2022, I launched a full line of paraben- and sulfate-free products. Within a year and a half, they were selling in over 28 states.

By late 2023, I wanted to grow beyond haircare. After researching trends, I saw a high demand for lip gloss. I partnered with a lab to create a shea butter–infused formula and launched on Black Friday — making over $2,000 in one weekend. That confirmed what I already knew: when I show up consistently, results follow. Later, I upgraded the gloss to a 2-in-1 version with a built-in light and mirror — and it took off. Suddenly, everyone wanted the gloss, the edge control, and the oil. And it all performed incredibly well.

Then, I took a pause. I had settled into my “big girl” 9-5 and wanted to enjoy life. The business took a backseat while I traveled, partied, and questioned whether entrepreneurship was truly for me. But that inner voice kept whispering: You didn’t come this far to only come this far. So, I started educating myself on the hair extension industry, testing vendors, and preparing for what was next for the remainder of the year.

Everything changed on December 28th, 2024. Life felt stagnant, and I was tired of operating on autopilot. I used ChatGPT to map out a personal and business plan. After celebrating my birthday in January, I scaled the plan down to a 3-month strategy and locked in. I eliminated distractions, refocused, and poured everything into rebuilding my brand.

On May 16th, 2025, I launched my hair extensions line. Within one month, I reached over 1 million viewers, expanded to 42 states, and generated over $15,000 in sales. I realized I was truly making an impact on lives, positively — and I learned that when I’m focused, everything aligns.

And the best part? I’m just getting started. I can’t wait to see where I’ll be by December 28, 2025.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not — there’s no such thing as a smooth road. I’ve had restocks that flopped after weeks of promotion. I’ve launched products that didn’t sell. It was discouraging, but it taught me to pivot quickly and make smarter decisions.

At the same time, I was dealing with personal challenges that didn’t pause for business. I had to figure out what mattered most and keep going — even when I felt like nothing was working. Those low moments built my resilience and reminded me why I started.

What might shock some people is that I didn’t come from a professional beauty background. I’m not a stylist — I actually went to college to become a forensic investigator. But I’ve always been obsessed with hair and wanted my own business. When my own hair started falling out from toxic products, I became determined to find real solutions that were natural. I dug deep, learned the science, and built products that worked — not just for me, but for women like me who wanted healthy hair without compromise.
