Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Levine.
Hi Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved creating art since I was a child. My favorite art media included oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pastel, pencil drawing, and photography. My parents encouraged me to develop my artistic talents and I received my Bachelor of Science in Art Education at Towson University. I started my career as an art teacher and earned my Master of Arts in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art. In addition to teaching, I enjoyed traveling and using my photography as inspiration for all of the drawings and paintings hanging in my home. After 7 years of teaching art, my husband and I welcomed our first child and being home with her was so meaningful to me. By the time our 3rd child was born, pivoting to a career in newborn photography was a natural direction for me. I enjoy creating sentimental portraits for all of my wonderful photography clients. And I still spend as much time as I can painting and drawing for personal fulfillment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was challenging starting my own photography business, as it grew slowly. While my expertise was in all aspects of art and photography, it took longer to learn how to market and run a sustainable business. My passion for photography and working with my clients was the fun part. I made connections with professional photography groups, which have helped me along the way. Now that I feel confident in business management, I can really provide the service that I want to give my clients and maintain a reasonable schedule.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The reason I became a professional newborn photographer was because I absolutely love art, babies, and motherhood. My own 3 children have been the greatest gifts of my life, so newborn, baby, and family photography is a perfect fit for me. I truly enjoy my career as a photographer because I know that my experience brings so much joy to my clients in preserving their special memories. I use a combination of baby-led and gentle posing using skilled wrapping techniques. My goal is to provide a custom photography experience resulting in images that are printed and preserved for generations, in addition to digital files. The best images are the ones of clients interacting with their children, and I think capturing these details make artistic compositions that go beautifully in wall art and albums. My clients often thank me for my patience with their little ones and that makes me really happy. I care about my clients and enjoy building relationships that we look forward to seeing each other as their families grow.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
In addition to my photography, I am always creating personal artwork. As my side project, I started Rebecca Leigh Studio to provide art education, illustrations, and other artwork. I often share my paintings and behind the scenes on Instagram. Currently, I am working on watercolor paintings to sell as Giclée Fine Art Prints. It will take some time to develop my offerings further, but I plan to continue to pour into this as well.
