Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Crigger.
Hi Kayla , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My senior year of high school I got thrown into an advanced floral design class, where I quickly learned that I had an eye for floral design. So much so that my teachers recruited me to help with their personal floral businesses. By the time my senior year was over, I had three or four weddings under my belt, and because of that my cousin asked me to do the florals at her wedding that upcoming October. In the months building up to her wedding, I realized that this quickly became a huge passion of mine that I was seriously considering pursuing. Following her wedding in October 2022 at the ripe age of 18, I got an EIN number and started a business. The first year was filled with attempts at selling mason jar arrangements at local businesses until I booked my first event. My first event was a Christmas party on December 10 for a flooring and tiling company. They ordered around 20 center pieces, and I was ecstatic. During the 2023 wedding season, I was able to book 12 weddings and couldn’t have been happier with the opportunities. In the meantime, I gained hands-on experience at a local wedding venue, Green Hill Farm, to learn the ropes of wedding florals and planning. To end 2023, I ventured into hosting workshops, which has became a staple of my business. 2024 rolled around, and we had 24 weddings and 6 workshops, which doubled our workload. So, I took on a partner to assist in managing the workload. Today, in 2025, we have 34 weddings and 7 workshops as of now, but more to come as the year progresses. Most importantly, we opened our storefront on May 10, 2025, and have seen amazing opportunities blossom out of our new space!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being fresh out of high school and starting a business, brought a world of knowledge I had yet to learn. From 2023 to 2024, I served as a Maryland State FFA Officer, which is essentially a full time position. Having a full time position made it difficult to balance running a business and working at the same time. Since I didn’t learn my lesson the first time, I am currently still working a full time position as a floral manager for a local grocery store, while working to build my business and the newly developed store front.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
4065 Florals and Events is primarily a floral business for ordered designs, but we have branched out to serve clients with rentals, workshops, and collaborations with other local businesses. The majority of our events are weddings; however, we offer services for funerals and other special events, such as graduation parties, baby showers, etc. Our business is founded and run by young women, which has brought a new twist to the floriculture industry, which has been typically routed in tradition. Our use of social media marketing, and young clientele has brought new light to our community and the public perception of young entrepreneurs. Our designs also offer tasteful eclectic aesthetics filled with vibrant colors and wide variety of ways to display the designs such as flower pillars, nontraditional arbors, etc. We pride ourselves on always being willing to make clients dreams come true, which means saying “yes” to the oddball designs and never-seen-before requests.
Any big plans?
The ultimate goals for the owner, Kayla Crigger, is to own and operate a wedding venue on the property she grew up on. Her venue would include all inclusive packages with coordination, floral design, catering, etc.
