Today we’d like to introduce you to Syrus Scofield Kasi Moreno.
Hi Syrus Scofield, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
GoodSigns was founded with a transformative vision to reshape the live event landscape for the American Sign Language (ASL) community. We are dedicated to ensuring that Deaf, DeafBlind, Late-Deafened, and Hard-of-Hearing individuals can fully immerse themselves in entertainment and recreational activities. Our mission is to partner with businesses and organizations, fostering inclusive and welcoming environments where ASL users and learners can participate in and enjoy art and culture without communication barriers.
We offer comprehensive support that includes pre-event planning, on-site logistical coordination, and post-event feedback. We collaborate closely with venues to ensure interpreters have the necessary resources and support. Our ongoing dialogue and engagement with the Deaf community ensures that our services address their needs and perspectives.
Our services extend beyond individual events. We actively collaborate with venues, local artists, and nonprofits to raise awareness and promote ASL-accessible experiences at live events. Through social media engagement, compelling content creation, and mutually beneficial partnerships, we are shaping a future of increased accessibility and inclusivity.
By upholding these commitments, we cultivate spaces where access is not merely a service provided but a value deeply embedded in the organizational culture. Everyone should be able to fully experience and enjoy life, regardless of their communication needs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most people consider ASL Access an afterthought, even when community members follow the proper steps to request it. One challenge we often face is how to educate businesses about their responsibility in this process.
One of the primary issues lies in the lack of understanding among businesses and organizations regarding their responsibilities in providing ASL Access. While it is incumbent upon these entities to secure qualified and capable ASL interpreters, this is often overlooked or neglected. This places the onus on the Deaf community to advocate for their rights and access, which can be a time-consuming and emotionally draining process.
This lack of accountability and prioritization of ASL Access perpetuates a cycle of exclusion and marginalization for the Deaf community. It reinforces the notion that their needs are not valued and that their access to information and participation in society is conditional. ASL Access is not just a service; it is a fundamental right that significantly impacts the quality of life and the ability to participate fully in society for the Deaf community.
To effectively tackle the challenges of delivering ASL services and connecting with the Deaf community, collaborating with a specialized agency such as GoodSigns offers a robust solution. Our skilled team can simplify the process of finding qualified interpreters for your events, promoting effective communication and inclusivity. We not only provide staffing but also assist in collecting essential feedback from your clients, enabling you to enhance and fine-tune your ASL services based on actual experiences. By partnering with us, you can save time and resources, improve your services, and demonstrate your commitment to accessibility.
Additionally, we help consult and implement user-friendly systems for your clients to quickly request ASL interpreters, streamlining the process and enhancing their experience. Our expertise also extends to crafting targeted ASL content specifically designed to engage the Deaf community and raise awareness of your ASL services. By effectively promoting your commitment to inclusion, we can help you maximize meaningful connections with the Deaf community.
Our collaborative approach ensures that your organization is well-equipped to meet the communication needs of all individuals, regardless of their hearing status. By partnering with GoodSigns, you demonstrate a genuine commitment to accessibility and create a welcoming environment for everyone.

We collaborate with exceptional Deaf performers to create music videos that capture and preserve the beauty of artistic expression in Signed Languages.
This year, we’re partnering with some incredibly talented Deaf artists and performers to create ASL music videos, allowing the Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard-of-hearing community to enjoy music in their own language.
