Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanni Hawkins.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Beginning as a punishment in highschool , I began lending my voice to morning and afternoon announcements. That turned into a love for the microphone. While in attendance at Laurence G Paguin under Dr Rosetta Stith I began working on Teen Summit as an anchor.
My love affair with the microphone later translated in hosting fashion shows, hosting in clubs and as an on air personality and creator for podcasts ( FM Radio 101 / Besos Radio – WPB Networks ) ( Besos Radio – CROWN MEDIA, VVC RADIO , 1500 Radio ) ( Word of Mouth Mornings / Word of Mouth Middays – 1500 Radio and Hooligan Express Radio ) as an emcee. Coupled with my expressive interpretation of current events and salacious social topics I garnered a reputation of accuracy and gained a large following from artists . Following the blueprint laid by the incomparable Wendy Williams , DJ Quick Silva and Frank Ski I enjoyed breaking records of local artist , highlighting local entrepreneurs ,causing commotion on air with celebrity gossip and leaving an inspirational message at the conclusion of the show – I eventually cultivated strong relationships with artists helping to forge partnerships amongst them and businesses. Those relationships helped to become the personal manager to hip hop / rap artist George Gambino . Coincidentally, prior to my acquisition as his personal manager I interviewed George and had pleasure of breaking Tae Wilson’s record Walk featuring him and Reggie Street.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has certainly been a bumpy one. As a single mother I juggle many hats as an entrepreneur and mom. I had personal hiatus leaves more recently where I had to stop everything to deal. Everything from things with kids to things with my personal life have found ways to derail me. As any other creative I battled with being recognized for my talents. As we hear others say “ it’s so saturated” I had to find my niché and stick to it. In my case being the perfect blend of professional and edgy. Maintaining that and resisting the temptation to conform to the norm.

I’m a talented multimedia personality most know who I am for that. Aside from my creative babies Besos Radio and Word of Mouth I have lent my talents to Tapped in with Ericka J (ABC 2 ) along with Bmore News with Donnie Glover (1010 am – Radio One) I have also lent my likeness as a model for brands such as Kent Fisher Furs , Shoe City and magazine publications both cover model and features. When I’m not modeling or emceeing I am the fashion / beauty contributing writer for Single Women In Focus Today Magazine ( S.W.I.F.T. Magazine) I’m most proud of to date is my two self published books , my memoir From Chrysalis To Butterfly : A Memoir of Metamorphosis and self help book The Ratchet Girl’s Guide To Peace both available on Amazon now. I believe what sets me apart is my versatility. I am multitalented and I enjoy learning about each of my crafts. Staying on top of the frontier of each art as creatives know landscapes are forever changing.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like my attention to detail and love of the arts is important to my success. My ability to hone in on details and make it make sense helps translate the art in the way I intended for it to be interpreted whether it’s my personal manager work for George Gambino or my writing the details always matter. My genuine love for the arts helps drive my success. I love watching the vision flourish – I’m like a kid in a candy store jumping up and down eyes wide open as it unveils.
