Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Wiley.
Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my photography business in 2013. That summer, I spent taking portraits of family and friends for a college class. By the Fall, I photographed my first wedding, one month before my own wedding. By 2016, I was a full-time wedding and portrait photographer. Currently, I primarily photograph weddings; they are the perfect mix of creativity and community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth road…no. A rollercoaster…yes. I have tried a lot of different photography niches before settling into weddings, I feel it best aligns with my skills and schedule. My biggest struggle has always been balancing my personal life and business life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been in the wedding industry for over 11 years and have had the joy of photographing over 300 weddings. My work revolves around visual storytelling, blending candid moments with editorial shots, and I specialize in creating vibrant photos.
I’m known for my love of ambiance, industrial venues, greenhouses, nostalgia, fashion, and capturing timeless black-and-white photos. Polaroid cameras also hold a special place in my heart. I strive to make every wedding feel like an artistic experience, as creative and immersive as the day itself.
What sets me apart is my commitment to crafting a personalized, intentional photography experience for every couple I work with. To me, a gallery is not just a collection of photos – it’s a curated body of art that tells your story. I pour my energy into my work, constantly learning, growing, and thriving off authentic connections with the people I photograph.
Above all, I’m most proud of the way my work captures the essence of my clients and the story of their weddings. There’s nothing quite like looking back at a gallery that reflects not just the moments, but the emotions and beauty of that day.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just start, and then keep going. Try new things, absolutely never compare yourself to anyone, and go network with the local community. One thing I wish I learned when I was starting is how easy it is to let a business consume, it’s not your whole life, just a piece of it.
