Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Baker
Hi Erin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I’ve been a creative person but there were times where I wasn’t sure how all of my passions could work together. I started my career working in events by working for the Street Team of a local radio station. Shortly after, I picked up a contract as a Field Marketing Manager for a local nonprofit race which really threw me into the world of larger events. I was able to learn quite a few different roles during that time like event set up, fundraising, decorating, sponsorships, and serving. When the contract was up, I knew I wanted to continue working events but wanted to sharpen my skills. I picked up a few gigs working different events while also working retail part time. My family always has large events so I would watch my sister make drinks. Slowly but surely I started making drinks for the family too which is how I got into bartending.
In 2023, after spending a few years bartending in nightlife, I created Pretty Little Bar DMV, a mobile bartending and event staffing company. Originally, I just wanted to continue bartending because I enjoyed it so much but nightlife was wearing on my body. But PLBDMV grew very fast in the first year and I was able to gain clients for many different events from birthday parties to business launches to weddings. I like to consider us as a liquid catering company because we provide more than cocktails. We also offer mocktails, fresh lemonade, any type of drink you can think of!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting ANY business comes with its challenges but extensive research was essential before launching a mobile bartending company because you have to understand the requirements of this industry. One of the most significant hurdles is licensing. In most states, we’re considered “dry-hire,” which means we can provide the cups, napkins, mixers, and garnishes—but we can’t get a liquor license as a mobile business. A lot of clients don’t realize that mobile bartenders legally can’t supply alcohol at their events. That means our clients are responsible for purchasing the alcohol themselves. I get that it might feel like an extra step, especially for those who want a completely hands-off experience, but I see it as a win! This way, clients have full control over their selections and can even catch deals at their favorite stores.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pretty Little Bar DMV. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pretty Little Bar DMV is more than just a bartending service—we create an unforgettable experience with every pour! We specialize in crafting custom cocktails and providing top-tier services for weddings, private parties, corporate events, and celebrations of all kinds. We focus on delivering exceptional service with a touch of elegance and fun, ensuring that every event feels both elevated and effortless.
We pride ourselves on attention to detail and our commitment to a luxury yet approachable bar experience. We don’t just serve drinks—we curate experiences and create memories. From beautifully styled bar setups to signature cocktail menus tailored to your event, we bring the perfect mix of professionalism, creativity, and hospitality.
One of the things I’m most proud of as a brand is our dedication to creativity. We love taking little things about our clients and integrating them into cocktails whether it’s through a theme, colors, drink names, or garnishes. We also host private mixology classes to teach our clients about their favorite cocktails and how to make them at home.
At the heart of Pretty Little Bar DMV is a passion for creating memorable experiences. Whether it’s a sophisticated cocktail reception, a lively birthday party, or an intimate gathering, we bring the same level of care and expertise to every event.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t like to use the word luck, I prefer to use faith. Faith is the foundation of both my life and my business. I truly believe that every opportunity, challenge, and success has been guided by God’s timing and purpose. I had another business before the pandemic and COVID made me realize that it was no longer serving me so I took the opportunity to pivot. Starting Pretty Little Bar DMV wasn’t just about stepping into entrepreneurship—it was about trusting that I was walking in my purpose.
There have been moments when things didn’t go as planned, but instead of seeing it as bad luck, I see it as a lesson or redirection. Every challenge has strengthened my resilience and reinforced that what’s meant for me won’t miss me. On the flip side, every blessing—whether it’s a new client, a major event booking, or an unexpected connection—has been a reminder that faith, hard work, and consistency will always open doors.
I don’t rely on luck—I rely on faith, preparation, and the belief that with God, all things are possible.
