Community Highlights: Meet Austin Lewis of Bay Life Brokerage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Lewis

Hi Austin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a resident of Essex, Maryland, right off of Back River. Since moving to this area I was always upset by the conditions of the water in and around this region of the Chesapeake. In 2021, after multiple deployments and activations as a Army National Guard Military Police Officer, I was faced with the prospect of leaving my civilian career as a financial representative with a major financial company here in Baltimore. I immediately knew I wanted to open up my own Insurance Brokerage and base my companies brand and mission off of cleaning and restoring our portion of the Chesapeake Bay. To do this I partnered with a local charity operating a trash boom here in Back River, as well as planting living shorelines and performing water quality test. The plan is simple, as citizens use our company for their insurance needs I am allowed to continue to work towards our restoration goals, which hopefully attracts more clientele and furthers the mission.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many struggles that I imagine will never fully rest. First struggle was learning the craft of using social media to get out the word about our company and the mission. Once this began to take shape I then had to learn how to adequately balance the mission with servicing the newly obtained clientele. In addition to all of this, just the ins and outs of being your own boss and managing all aspect of a growing business.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bay Life Brokerage. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in Life and Disability insurance for businesses and professionals. We also help those same clients plan for retirement using indexed annuities. We are known for prompt and professional service, and foremost our mission of cleaning and restoring the Chesapeake Bay. It is how we have tied in our business with the charitable mission that I am most proud. How do you define success?
The continuation of our business and the growing notoriety of our brand feels like a measurement of success I can be proud of. Ultimately we envision a noticeable difference in the health of the Chesapeake and a more financially sound position for the population that inhabits it.
