Life & Work with Sam Iaconi of Baltimore MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Iaconi

Sam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been making art since childhood, but it wasn’t until I attended Undergrad at the Maryland Institute College of Art, that I fell in love with painting. I graduated in 2017 with a BFA in painting and have been chasing my love of it ever since. I started focusing on plein air acrylic painting 4 years ago and it lit up my world. I went from making my work in my studio, alone, to making my work out in the world and sparking genuine conversations with all that stop by my easel, I’ve met new artists, experienced artists, new collectors, future artists, art fanatics and so many more incredible people who shared their time with me. Last year, I started my Live Painting Services including live painting at weddings, business parties, promotional events, birthdays, and many other events. In doing so, I have been able to travel all around the DMV area and visit locations I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. Marketing myself as an “Artist for Hire”, I not only provide Live Painting Services, but also painting commissions of pet portraits, house portraits, business portraits, family portraits, home or business murals and anything else your heart desires! I like to say, as long as I’m painting – I’m happy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anyone who says it is a smooth road, is lying to you. There are tall mountains to climb and deep valleys to pass, and not always is there fruit at the end of your labors. You learn to take the good with the bad, and know that everything is a learning experience. I’ve partnered with galleries that have been blessings in so many ways, but I also partnered with a gallery that completely failed me and my show in every way possible. The Truth is – you live and you learn and you do better next time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a painter through and through. It is a medium that calls to me – I get lost in it. Currently, my specialty is Live Painting. I combine my love for plein air painting, with my love of the minute and fine details of everyday life. I love to capture those small but large, special moments. When I am live painting, I am completely lost in the moment, and those who join me by my easel, get lost in it too. Whether it is your First Kiss at your Wedding, a quiet moment at your favorite Diner, a passing moment of your childhood home; every live painting scene has a beauty that is created with specific and fine detailing. It’s truly my favorite part – to capture those wispy hairs and delicate details.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The clink of my brushes bouncing in my water cup. The smell of a fresh tube of Titanium White. The crunch of a hard flat brush against raw canvas. A warm spring breeze at my plein air easel. The smile on a boys face when he catches a glimpse of my painting as he passes me on the street. The teary eyed smile of a new bride seeing her Live Wedding Painting for the first time. The look in the eyes of a young girl as I hand her a pet portrait of her beloved pet. Life makes me happy, and living life as a painter makes me the most happy.
