Inspiring Conversations with Chimere Murrill of Réveur Sauvage Yacht Club & Charters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chimere Murrill, CEO & Master Captain.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born here in Baltimore but raised in rural Petersburg, Virginia. I’ve been back in the area since finishing undergrad at Morgan State University in 2007, then onto pursuing my career in the DMV.

I was introduced to recreational boating by way of working in Cybersecurity as a Defense Contractor. Two of my colleagues owned two different boat styles. They were always offering to take me out, and I was always unable to go due to the demands of my career; however, one weekend I decided to make time and go out on the Bay with them and was completely hooked. I caught what we call, a “boat bug!”

Being out on the Bay was an escape from the hustle and bustle of work and city life. I continued to go out with my friends and gain knowledge of boating. Not long after, I purchased my first Baha two-seater vessel with the rear sun pad. I continued going out as often as possible and learned as much as I could. My friends were great about helping me get hours on the water and practice. All the while, I dreamt of owning a yacht and creating a business around boating. My vision was to create a unique brand that would pair my love for boating and my ability to spread knowledge and curate unforgettable experiences for others. Thus, Réveur Sauvage was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t describe it as smooth lol. It’s been an interesting new journey that I’m glad to took the leap to start and grow this business. Balancing my personal life and business has had its challenges. I want to be the healthy, fit CEO that can make all of my engagements and show up mentally for my business. That was tough to maintain during peak season—my mind shifts to every experience being the same along with no casualties and the safety for every guest. There were also some learning curves that showed up like choosing the accounting platform, proper insurance and bonding, the best tool for my staff to communicate on our busiest days, presented some challenges. I’d say the biggest hurdle I’ve experienced has been my charter business thriving so quickly and having dealt with a seemingly jealous charter boat owner who has been in business for years in Baltimore. I denied his offer to operate as a sub-contractor under his business – since my style of vessel is what is ideal for summer and luxury. From there, it was just a headache and frustration. While having to share the same marina to operate our businesses, I had to deal with his constant harassment, passive aggressive conversations, towards me and my staff, to the point where he illegally recorded a casual conversation – hoping to get something negative to report about me and my business. It was then, I realized I’m heading in the right direction!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
In Feb of 2024, I achieved Master Captain and am working towards obtaining the federal Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE) certification to add to my current MWBE. This will allow me to branch the second business in maritime which is providing Maritime Transportation support on the commercial contract realm.

Women and people are vastly undiscovered and underrepresented in maritime industry, limiting their access to the wealth of opportunities it offers. Réveur Sauvage Yacht Club & Charter is changing that by providing accessible maritime experiences, creating passive income opportunities, providing nautical knowledge and training and more!
