Today we’d like to introduce you to Merasha Bailey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a nurse for 11 years and working in Emergency Medicine for 8 years. I love the fast pace environment and the adrenaline rush the ER provides. One day I was watching the news and hearing about the disparity in black maternal health and I told myself I have to do something, I just didn’t know what! I went on a “find my passion journey” and remembered maternal health has always been an interest of mine. After some self discovery and research I signed up for a doula program and La’Vida Doula was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all or straight for that matter it’s has been a very curvy road ! I am not a huge social media person and the learning curve of social media is steep , but I was determined! I told myself that I need to figure out content creation, branding , and how to make a website. So everyday I asked questions and sought help from other entrepreneurs and learned as I went along. I constantly remind myself this is not a sprint but a marathon so just keep going and taking it one step at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a birth doula ! I support birthing persons through their birth journey. I educate my birth families and prepare them for the task at hand. I am a coach and an advocate. I help merge the connection between birthing person and provider by answering any question and interpreting medical jargon. I am most proud of how far I’ve come in a small time frame. What sets me apart from others is ME! I have a true passion for people and an insatiable desire to help others and people can feel that when they meet me.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is patience’s and giving myself grace. I’m new to entrepreneurship and I’m not expected to have all the answers. I have also learned the importance of networking! I’ve learned the significance and power networking has. My forever motto is “closed mouths don’t get fed” !
