Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Lane.

Samantha Lane

Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in interior design in a somewhat unconventional way. Initially, I worked in design department at a a large financial firm, where i was exposed to the importance of space planning and creating environments that align with both function and aesthetics. I was intrigued by how design could impact productivity and the overall atmosphere. As I gained more experience, I realized my passion for design went beyond the corporate setting. I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in interior design. Going back to school was a significant shift, but its gave me the knowledge and technical skills I needed to truly understand design a t a deeper level. It wasn’t just about choosing the right colors or furniture, but about creating meaningful, functional spaces that resonate with the people who use them.
While finishing my Master’s, I felt ready to take the next step. I started my own firm with my business partner, Ann Angelella. The transition wasn’t easy – it took a lot of perseverance, learning and adapting-but I am grateful for the journey that led me here. Each step has helped me build a foundation for my business, and now I’m able to work with clients in a way that brings my vision to life while staying grounded in the practical needs of the spaces we create.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning an interior design business comes with a lot of challenges, many of which aren’t immediately visible from the outside. One of the biggest hurdles is managing the balance between creativity and the business side of things. Building a client base is not always as straight forward as it seems. Trust is a huge factor, and it can take time to establish that, especially when starting out. Word of mouth and referrals are invaluable, but they don’t happen overnight, and it requires consistent effort to prove your value.
Another challenge is staying ahead in a constantly evolving industry. Trends change quickly, and staying updated while maintaining a unique voice can sometimes feel like a lot to juggle. And of course, there’s always the pressure to stay profitable while staying true to your creative vision. It’s a constant balancing act.
Ultimately, though, it’s the passion for design that keeps everything going, even when the challenges feel heavy. Each obstacle is an opportunity to learn and grow, and that’s something I try to remind myself when things get challenging.
