Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Thomas
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Photography for me started out as a hobby. I took photos of my kids and street photography often with just my iPhone and a canon rebel t3i.
I booked my first client for business headshots and my business took off from there. Now I capture more than 10 weddings a year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggles when it comes to my photography business is staying focused on my passion. When you turn a hobby into a business, you can find yourself questioning why you started or you may even see yourself changing your style to become like others in the same field. Imposter syndrome has also been a struggle of mine.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, I am a professional photographer and videographer. I am most known for my style of photography which consists of raw emotion that I try to express through my imagery. I have a journalistic/documentary style of photography and because of this, it tells a story and puts you in the same moment the photos were captured in. I am most proud of my ability to inspire others.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was always a shy quiet child, until you got to know me of course. I didn’t open up easily to others but when I did I was a completely different person, outgoing, comical and dramatic. I was always fascinated with the arts. I read often, drew pictures, sang and wrote poems. As I became older I took an interest in basketball and loved it. I played from the time I was 7 into late high school until I developed other passions. I kept a lot of friends and would say I had a decent childhood despite my parents divorce.
