Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Maxwell
Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Katie Maxwell and I’m a Professional Makeup Artist and Esthetician. I specialize in wedding makeup, brows and waxing services.
I am a self taught makeup artist with over 7 years of professional experience in the wedding industry, working for makeup companies and working on my own. I specialize in wedding makeup but I also do makeup for photoshoots and other events. After working in the beauty industry for a few years I fell in love with brows and esthetics so went to school and became an esthetician in 2019. Brows and waxing were easily my favorite skills to take on. In 2023 I decided to step out on my own continuing to grow my business and I now have my own studio space in Cockeysville.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey as a business owner hasn’t been smooth but thankfully it hasn’t been too tough either. I dealt with a lot of self-doubt and depression growing up so starting and running a business where it’s my job to take care of other people and make them feel good was hard – especially because I struggled to do those things for myself at times. I’ve always wanted to have my own business and take control of my own life so giving up was not an option for me. I’m so happy I followed through with my dreams because I’m in the best mental space I’ve ever been before and I know my business played a a huge part in that. Having clients who choose me over and over again whether it’s makeup or esthetics is a confirmation to me that I’m good enough and everything I’ve been doing is worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I do specialize in wedding makeup, I do a lot of makeup for photoshoots as well as other events. Im known for glam makeup with a skin-like base. As an Esthetician I prioritize skin care and skin prep in order to make my clients skin look as naturally flawless as possible. Skin is my favorite but I do love every part of the makeup process from the eyes, the brows and I loveee a good lip combo. I want my clients to look filtered in real life, enhancing their beauty and making sure my clients still look like themselves, just elevated.
I also specialize in brow and waxing services. I offer brow lamination, brow tinting and full body waxing. Brows are one of my favorite things to do because of how much it shapes your face. Whether it’s with a wax, tint or lamination can really give you a whole new look even if it’s a subtle change. Waxing is such a confidence booster. I mainly do Brazilian, underarm and leg waxing but I do offer waxing for any part of the body. I take pride in being able to provide a comfortable experience, make it as painless as possible and providing long term results.
What does success mean to you?
For me, I think success being supported and loved by people who like you for you.
Success is making time for yourself and believing you’re worthy even when it’s hard to. Being loved for what I do and how I do it also makes me feel successful. I feel like it’s healing the part of my younger self who struggled so much with self doubt.
