Today we’d like to introduce you to Aboubakar Barry
Hi Aboubakar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always known that I wanted to invest in real estate, but I didn’t know how or where to begin. I was able to learn a lot about the real estate market and eventually make my first investment thanks to the assistance of a close friend, general networking and my own due diligence. To build up capital to invest in my first property, I worked as a full-time IT systems analyst for about a year and a half after I graduated from college. I also did a few odd jobs on the weekends, including driving for Uber, to try to save as much money as I could. This took longer than most traditional ways of getting into the real estate game but for me it was not about getting into it as quickly as I possibly can, it was about doing it the right way and I felt that saving up a few dollars would not only help me appreciate my opportunity to become a real estate investor, it would humble me and make me respect the game.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been as smooth a road as I thought it was going to be. Everyday there’s an opportunity to learn a lesson and one thing the real estate market doesn’t fail to do is take advantage of that opportunity to teach you a lesson. Some of the biggest struggles for me starting out was going through the trail and error, I didn’t really have anyone to tell me go this way or go that way I kind of just had to learn the do’s and the dont’s as they came up.
We’ve been impressed with Barry Housing LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Barry Housing is a real estate company whose goal is not only buy and renovate and sell homes, but also help other people who want to get into real estate but don’t know where to start. What sets us apart from other real estate companies is that we not only look to teach people how to invest but we also provide an opportunity for them to become a partner with us.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Our company wasn’t operating during the COVID-19 crisis, but as an individual before starting this company, the crisis taught meI a lot of key values in making sure that your company or business is set up for the unexpected because you never know what can happen and when it can happen or when you may need to change your business flow.
