Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Allen
Hi Pamela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been singing and writing since I could think and talk. In elementary school, I’d be in class assigning harmony parts to my classmates before I even knew what harmony was. It’s always been in me. When I was younger, I chose music and then it chose me back. I’ve never been a big communicator but always been expressive by writing my feelings in melodies. Something I couldn’t escape and it’s created this drive and passion that I’ve never had for anything else. It peaked in church, of course. It became reality in college and now we’re going up everyday.
With sports & business, that chose me. Owning a business where I grow the future of athletics through amazing young stars wasn’t anything I expected to get into but something I’m grateful for. Talk about starting from the bottom, everyday is still a grind where I’m going through the motions and learning but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, It hasn’t been extremely difficult but that’s all thanks to God. It definitely hasn’t been anything that I’ve expected. I’m about to turn 22 and If you would’ve asked 16 year old Pam what music would look like for 22 year old Pam, I would’ve been preparing to release my second album right now. I struggled with internal fear for a long time just because my music is my vulnerability. But, I trust God’s timing. I can’t imagine being on any other path. I’m glad I had time to get my mind right and truly dive into developing as an artist and learning the industry, building my team, and honing my craft. I know it’ll make all the difference.
Business is a completely different story, that’s been the bumpiest road of my life. It still is. Imagine coming into something with no experience and no mentor and all you have is your faith and big ideas. It’s hard being a boss in a male dominated industry. It’s even harder being a Black Woman Boss in those fields, consistently having your judgement questioned amongst other things but I know I’m here for a reason. I have the greatest clients in the world and I’m grateful they trust me, they make it all worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a writer and an artist PK is every girls homegirl and every guys dream girl. Sweet, Spicy, Smart, and Stunning. RNT is my genre; rhythm & trap. I say all the things that are deemed as “wild” or “crazy” but in cute ways to take the edge off. I’m very proud of the way I’ve been able to subgenre RnB. Think about if Bryson Tiller morphed with Drake, Future, and Beyonce and came out with a supergirl, that’s me. The style is so different, it’s far from traditional but you can play it anywhere. Chilling with your friends, on a late night drive, on the radio, at the clubs, it doesn’t matter. Music is all about feeling and that’s what I bring to the industry, something fresh with every vibe.
As a businesswoman I’ve been able to maintain similar tropes. I operate the only Black Woman owned and operated NIL company. We started as a company dedicated to defensive collegiate football players and in two years have expanded to HS athletes and other college sports. We’ve worked with so many brands and scaling constantly. I’m proud to be a connector of people whether that be through my music, my business, or both. I’m proud to be an example of what a young Black Girl grinding looks like. I’m extremely happy that I don’t have to choose, women are superheroes and I’m literally Miss Boss.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid taught me so much about not taking life for granted and really diving into what you love unapologetically.
