Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Thomas
Hi Melvin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Melvin Thomas, I am a graduate of Howard University with a masters degree & diverse background in music, audio & art. I am owner & creator of Disco Sundays, the record label, and head aidiot engineer at Disco Sundays recording studios located in Baltimore. I do audio/broadcasting work for Paramount CBS News and also for SIRIUSXM NASCAR. Since hearing the production of Timbaland, I wanted to learn not just how to master production, but I wanted to learn all aspects of the music/audio business. In an era where the music business is rapidly changing & most can record themselves you have to provide more and adapt to changes around you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a road full of different experiences which I am grateful for. A lot of growing up & adversity including college sports. When you are pursuing a career of art, money isn’t always guaranteed and it can be very stressful but the only way to be beaten is if you give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a degree in 3D Art & computer science, and a masters degree in Audio Techology. My work consists of everything audio-related, whether it be musical recording, mixing advertisements/commercials, live broadcasting, recording voiceovers, even video game audio.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best kept secret about our city of Baltimore is the amount of hidden talent that you can find and I think that it’s certain unique things that hold value to the city of Baltimore like Baltimore Club music for example.
