Today we’d like to introduce you to APRIL DODD
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my art journey as a business in 2011. I’ve always had the gift but never took it seriously until then. I started with paintings on paper and then on to canvas. Since then, my business in Art has ventured into Interior Design, custom furniture, accent walls and more!
My culinary business took to new heights over the past 2 years once I really locked in to the vision I set for myself and my business. I’ve been catering for over 10 years but I now have a more structured and decorated approach with everything I do.
I have been able to take a more creative and innovative approach to all of my businesses by really tapping into myself as an artist and individual. And in order to have done that, I knew I needed to make a few lifestyle changes. So September 5th, 2022, I did just that! I began a 4 month fast of cutting out chicken, meats, alcohol, dating and unproductive activities and socializing. I’d realized that sometimes we move through life carrying weight that takes up space for new opportunities. After completing the 4 month cleanse, I was overly happy with how positively impacted my life had become and decided to keep going. This was the best decision I could ever make and I’ve had quite an uptick in every aspect of my life since then!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road is smooth. I just make sure that I pray and remain openminded about the realistic aspects of becoming a new person every single day; both in my personal life and in my business.
In the very beginning of my sober journey, I experienced the doubt from people who didn’t take me seriously in my quest of self care and self love. Some people preferred the party-goer April over the more grounded and subtle April, which was a bit hurtful yet eye opening.
I have thoroughly embraced that any time you put the effort towards improving your life, for your “soul” benefit, it may come with separation and even isolation. But never see this as a negative thing, instead see it as clarity to move forward without distraction.
What are you most known for? What are you most proud of?
I am known for being an overall Renaissance woman. Being a chef, artist, fashion designer, mixologist, illustrator, writer and more has set me apart in life itself!
I specialize in understanding people’s visions. I am meticulous when working toward the execution, whether it’s for a commissioned art piece, a catering event, or a fashion design.
I’m most proud of my ability to maintain discipline and not allow naysayers and nonbelievers to push me in their box.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to obtain a few commercial spaces to host and operate all of my businesses.
The biggest vision is to curate a space where people can wine and dine while socializing in an atmosphere full of my original art and custom furniture- all to be sold on spot! So imagine walking into a fine restaurant and the table where you’re seated, chairs you’re sitting in, and art on the walls are all for sale by the same Artists!
