Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisa Johnson
Hi Daisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being from Baltimore, moving to Philadelphia and relocating back to Baltimore I’ve seen a lot. I started out as a young black girl ready to see and conquer the world. I started working at 16, and at that point I just knew I could do anything I put my mind too. Now being 28, nothing in this life would’ve told me I’d be this far along despite many challenges. I managed to overcome high school trauma, teenage changes and the early twenties that no one really explains how drastic things change. I’ve worked hard for the life I’m building, to prove that anyone that looks like me can accomplish anything they dream or put their mind too. If I go talk to my younger self I’d tell her to keep going forward because it does indeed get better. I’ve built a life of love, joy and happiness. We have friends and family that loves us and we’re doing just fine. It’s okay to have a few bad days but those bad days don’t last long.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve learned nothing in this world is easy. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. Overcoming mental depression, suicide, childhood traumas. Letting go of generational trauma and fighting against the stigma that black people don’t seek help. Therapy and God’s grace changed my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I grow and mold into my late twenties, I’m relearning my joys and happiness. I’ve recently started food blogging and it gives me so much happiness. Being invited out to try new restaurants, learning new cultures and their foods is amazing. Nothing beats a night out with good friends, good food and a good drink! At 16, nobody could’ve told me that I’d be a 28 year old food blogger for fun, a truck driver, operations coordinator for non profits in Baltimore city, a mental health care worker and corporate trainer. Literally a jack of all trades — that’s what the people call it! I’m the one person people can call to vent, cry, laugh, get advice on trucking or turn around and want restaurant recommendations for date night! I love it tho. I’m always the “wait, let me get a picture and video” friend before we eat while everyone else is eager to eat !!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite podcast: Sarah Jake Robert’s: Woman Evolve.
All the book collections from Alex Elle and Toni Morrison.
You never know rest until you find a good book and sip aside the window and just read. Reading takes away all the troubles from the day and takes you into another world.
