Today we’d like to introduce you to Savon Jones
Hi Savon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in my closet. I was modeling at Morgan State University and that had came to an end but I wanted to have an impact in the fashion world while also finding a way to monetize it. During the pandemic I was going through my closet and chose to start selling my clothes online. It expanded from my own personal wardrobe to going to thrift stores, estate sales and yard sales. As time progressed the quality and rarity of my inventory got better. I sell online but I also do pop up shops and a multitude of flea markets. This went from being a hobby to a real passion of mine and a serious business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. This has been a true learning experience with its ups and downs. This business has taught me how to adapt and that while some strategies may work now, you have to constantly be adjusting and coming up with new ideas to improve the business. My biggest struggles have been the economy, marketing and adapting the business to where the industry is headed in the future. The economy will always play a major role and if the economy isn’t in the best place, you have to figure out ways to combat that. Also I’m a one man show so it’s difficult to play so many roles at once and trying to manage the time efficiently. Lastly it’s important that your business changes and understanding what that looks like. I’m in the process of changing my business to a more high end clothing retailer and figuring out what that looks like and how to go about it has been a challenge.
We’ve been impressed with Stop Shop and Say, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I want everyone to know, “I don’t sell clothes, I sell pieces”. I view my clothing as art pieces and as a special piece of a moment in time. I specialize in men’s clothing but I really view my clothing as unisex. I think what really sets me apart from others is the quality and rarity of my clothing. I also think that the customer service I bring to the table really adds to the shopping experience. I’m most proud of the quality of my clothing and my customer service, I feel as though it really speaks for itself.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think the most surprising thing is that my real goal is to have my own clothing brand. I love being a reseller but to have my own house hold name with my own creations that people love and wear is my real goal.
