Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrill Sankey
Hi Jerrill, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Before I ventured into designing and sewing I worked as a janitor for 8 years. During this time I worked on many personal projects, then i wanted to get into doing t-shirts but I always had a love for hats. Instead of getting them mass produced I thought it would be cool to make them. in 2010 my mother gave me a sewing machine and it went from there and I was hooked.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been an adventure. From the early days of figuring out how to get supplies and hat components to making a product people can gravitate to. And there is the occasional cheaters block.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design & make 1 of a kind and limited Headwear & Bags. I’m known for upcycling vintage Polo and other rare clothing materials. Im most proud of the collaborations I’ve done over the years with brands such as PRPS jeans, ALIFE, Maté, Greyson Cloththiers and other start up brands. What sets me apart from others is my ability to reinvent and add different styles to my headwear making.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I got to learn that the internet is a vital part of pushing a brand and the working and ways of the social media algorithm.
