Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique Cooper.
Hi Domonique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a proud native of Baltimore, Maryland, but I’ve found my home in the vibrant suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, where I juggle the rewarding roles of being a dedicated mom and wife. As an Education Strategist, I’m deeply passionate about shaping the future of learning. Currently, I’m honored to be a candidate for the Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 board of education, where I hope to make a meaningful difference in my community.
My commitment to service extends beyond education—I’m an avid volunteer, author, and inspirational speaker, championing causes like mental health and wellness, and advocating for those battling Multiple Sclerosis. With a diverse background that includes experience in the Federal Government sector, as well as being a graduate of The College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Capella University, and Harvard University, I bring a unique perspective to everything I do.
When I’m not immersed in community work or advocating for causes close to my heart, you can find me cherishing moments with my family, exploring new destinations, and indulging in the joys of unique dining experiences. With a heart full of passion and a spirit of resilience, I’m committed to making a positive impact wherever life takes me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life has been a tumultuous journey, filled with twists and turns that I never could have anticipated. One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced was the dissolution of my first marriage. It was a painful process, navigating the emotional fallout and the logistical challenges of untangling our lives.
Just when I thought I had weathered the worst, fate dealt another cruel blow. The devastating news of my grandmother’s murder shattered whatever semblance of stability I had managed to cling to. Losing her in such a senseless and violent manner was heart-wrenching, leaving a void in my life that I’ve worked diligently to preserve through.
And then, as if fate were determined to test my resilience even further, came the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. It felt like the final blow, shaking the very core of my existence and casting a shadow of doubt over the future. Suddenly, the path ahead seemed fraught with obstacles, and I found myself grappling with fear and uncertainty about what lay ahead.
But in the midst of darkness, I found glimmers of hope. Through the unwavering support of loved ones and the strength I discovered within myself, I began to navigate the turbulent waters of adversity. Each day was a battle, but I refused to let despair consume me.
Instead, I drew upon the lessons I had learned from each hardship, finding resilience in the face of adversity and holding onto hope for brighter days ahead. Through it all, I’ve come to realize the importance of leaning on loved ones for support, and I’m grateful for the unwavering presence of friends and family who have stood by my side through the darkest of times.
Amidst the chaos and turmoil, I’ve held onto a positive mindset and an unwavering faith, fueled by prayer. It’s been my guiding light, helping me find solace and strength in moments of despair. With this mindset, I’ve transformed my pain into purpose, using my experiences to support others facing similar struggles and advocating for meaningful causes close to my heart.
Through volunteering, sharing my story, and lending a listening ear, I’ve found a sense of fulfillment in helping others navigate their own journeys of adversity. It’s been a cathartic process, allowing me to channel my pain into something meaningful and uplifting purpose.
As I continue to move forward, I carry with me the lessons learned from each challenge I’ve faced. They’ve shaped me into a stronger, more compassionate individual, capable of weathering life’s storms with resilience and grace. And though the road ahead may still be uncertain, I walk it with a renewed sense of purpose, fueled by hope, faith, and the unwavering support of my loved ones.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an Education Strategist and advocate for children in my community, I specialize in bridging connections between individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities. My focus on promoting parental engagement, improving policy, and elevating ethics has been my guiding force. I’m known for my professionalism, positive attitude, and inclusive spirit, which sets me apart.
I take immense pride in my advocacy and community engagement efforts, striving to create a better educational culture and address achievement gaps. As a candidate for the Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 board of education, I’m committed to making a positive impact on the lives of students and families in our district.
Any big plans?
In the future, I’m excited to serve as a board member for the Gwinnett County Public Schools District 3 Board of Education, where I aim to make meaningful contributions to our education system. Additionally, I’m looking forward to completing my 16-series children’s book project, which will be available nationwide.
These books are designed to provide foundational support for social-emotional development in early readers, focusing on coping skills, positive peer interactions, and conflict resolution. I’m passionate about both endeavors and eager to see the positive impact they’ll have on our community and beyond.
