Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lee Squire.
Hi Lee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Ironically, my photography journey started long before I picked up a camera. Taking after my mother, an artist, who had endless paintings and photographs she had taken prominently displayed all around the house growing up, naturally, I wanted to emulate that.
After spending much of my childhood drawing and sketching in high school, I stumbled upon my mother’s old film camera buried deep in her closet. That is where my love for photography started. Since then, I’ve always had a camera at every gathering of friends, family function, vacation, you name it.
Fast-forward to around 2018, when I decided to take my love for photography more seriously. I started taking on actual paying portrait clients, and from there, I was hooked again!
About a year and a half after growing my portrait photography business, I was approached about photographing a wedding. I had recently been to a couple of weddings back to back, and the entire time, my eyes were trained on what the wedding photographers were doing. I told myself, wow, that looks like so much fun; I can do that.
So when the opportunity came, I jumped at it, and I have been shooting both weddings and portraits ever since!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say that the road has been smooth. There have been some bumps along the way. The most significant bump in the road was probably COVID throwing a wrench into the wedding season, but I wasn’t alone there.
Aside from that, I would say that my transition from being solely a portrait photographer to now being a wedding photographer as well has been the most significant growing pain.
Building a wedding portfolio and learning the ins and outs of the wedding industry does have a slight learning curve. But over time, things have become much easier, and I am much more confident and capable. I have also made many friends within the industry.

I am a portrait and wedding photographer serving the Maryland, District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia area. Of course, I will travel for weddings as needed.
What sets me apart from other portrait and wedding photographers is that I specialize in creating a comfortable and relaxed environment for my clients. One of my strong suits is making even the most camera-shy folks feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera. My photography style is a unique blend of candid moments and gracefully posed images that can be cherished for years and years.
One of the things that I am most proud of about being a portrait and wedding photographer is that I have perfected a style that, when you see a photograph, you automatically know that it was taken by me. Couples looking for that bold, vibrant, authentic look in their photographs naturally gravitate towards my style of photography.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to continue to build my reputation and clientele in the MD, VA & DC areas.
My dream is to one day own and operate a complete wedding photography studio comprised of a team of talented photographers and videographers.
