Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Banks.
Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
While being a hobby knitter for over 15 years people always urged me to sell knit accessories, such as hats and scarves. That never really spoke to me. Knitting was my passion, and I had no desire to turn it into work. As a fashion lover, I would always follow brands and certain aesthetics. The bohemian aesthetic spoke to me.
After reading about the history of knitting and seeing the Missoni Fall 2009 fashion show, I was inspired to do more with my passion. It was the first time I saw knitting in a light, high fashion. So, the idea for my brand was born. I would create modern knits for a whimsical woman.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has not been without its challenges, but I am grateful for the ability to do this. I originally launched my brand in 2018 under Wood Antler and Bloom. After launching, I was covered in local media, such as WJ, Z, and Baltimore magazine. I also sold a few of the major craft festivals in the city. Along the way, I have struggled to find my customers/market.
After the pandemic, I wanted to refresh my brand, so I renamed it after my great-great-grandmother to reflect her bohemian spirit, Which is the spirit that runs through my brand, Nina Faye Arter. Now, I’m seeking to turn my brand into more than clothing. I want to be a community. I plan to host beautiful knitting workshops, sell gorgeous yarn, and build meaningful relationships with my customers and between them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a knitwear designer. I created the patterns and handed them the items. I am also a curator of gorgeous, quality, sumptuous yarns. I’m known for creating Bohemian/romantic knitted clothing. I think what sets me apart is that my knitwear has a high fashion appeal.
My creations run the gamut, from crop tops to tank tops, cardigans, and skirts. I am most proud of creating an energy and a lifestyle around my knitwear. I think it has a specific point of view that can speak to a wide array of people.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most at this point in time is creating a community. Knitting has brought so much joy into my life. I want other people to experience the joy of creating an item made by hand.
I’m also passionate about teaching, so I love the idea of bringing those two things together. Teaching workshops, providing an experience, and building community is what I’m really focused on right now.
