Check Out Brooke Tyson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Tyson.

Brooke Tyson

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Although I have been a photographer for many years, I began my business in 2012. In 2012, I dove right into weddings. Looking back, I am so impressed by how brave I was to tackle something so new! Photographing a wedding is a challenge, but I spent hours studying other photographers’ stories about weddings and watching videos about how to shoot a wedding.

I went into my first wedding with a detailed plan and lots of backup gear. And, ironically, the only time I have ever had a camera failure during a wedding was at my very first wedding. In the middle of wedding party pictures, my shutter locked up and the camera stopped working. Thankfully, I had a backup camera. I’ve always had a backup camera (or two!) ever since then!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business is a challenge, but I have been so thankful for the incredible clients (who have become friends!) who have recommended me and supported my business over the years.

In 2017, my business grew a bit too quickly and, at the end of the year, I realized that while some photographers were comfortable handling a high volume of business, that model didn’t work for me.

So, I cut back on how many weddings I would accept annually and I feel this has helped enhance my client experience and my editing workflow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings and family portraits. For weddings, I love to truly get to know my couples and it is really important to me that people feel comfortable and confident in their photos – because that shows in the work. I want people to have fun, and I think my work reflects that. It is also very important to me to get spectacular wedding portraits for my couples.

I know my couples will look back on these pictures and cherish their photographs for many years, and I work hard to ensure that I create beautiful moments and stunning portraits that they can love for a lifetime. For families, I love to make people comfortable and help them have fun during their sessions – and this results in beautiful, authentic, and natural photographs!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I think people will only continue to value photography even more.
