Hidden Gems: Meet Kevin V. Montague of KVM Ministries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin V. Montague.

Kevin V. Montague

Hi Kevin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.

Growing up in Capitol Heights, MD, I’m the proud son of Leroy and Margaret Montague, with three amazing siblings. I graduated from Central Senior High in 1986 with a high GPA. Thanks to scholarships, I started at the University of Maryland, College Park, but then switched to Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and finally graduated from Columbia Union College after an 11-year educational journey.

In 1990, I landed a job at the Department of Treasury and worked my way up from a Clerk Typist to an IT Director. A proud moment was directing the Partnership in Education (PIE) Program, hiring over 250 high school and college students.

In 2002, I was licensed to preach, and by 2011, I was ordained as a Reverend. I am the only preacher of the family. In 2017, I started KVM Ministries, LLC, blending ministry with a small business.

During the 2019 COVID pandemic, I got inspired to write a devotional book, “Spiritual Vitamins – Daily nutrients for Your Spirit,” published in August 2020. It’s still selling on Amazon and all online bookstores including ebooks.

Now, after 33 years, I’m still working at the IRS as an IT Management Official. I’m also the Chief Operations Officer at Providence St. John Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. My journey from Capitol Heights to now is a mix of hard work, faith, and purpose.

Alright, so lets dig a little deeper into the story has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges youve had to overcome?
Embarking on the journey of life, my path has been anything but smooth; failure, pain, and disappointment made up this very rocky path. My academic pursuits at UMCP were initially promising with scholarships, yet I stumbled not once, but twice, succumbing to poor study habits and a lack of focus.

The verge of quitting loomed large, but determination, assertiveness, revamped study habits, and unwavering faith in God’s guidance propelled me forward. Transitioning to PGCC, I earned my Associate of Arts in two years and, subsequently, my Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration after 18 months from Columbia Union College.

In 2002, the joy of becoming a licensed minister was soon lost with the gut punch of losing a loved one to suicide. This heart-wrenching experience plunged me into a sea of depression and a real feeling of defeat. This loss affected me physically, mentally, and spiritually. However over time, I discovered renewed purpose and a closer walk with God, and I set my sights on new goals.

In 2017, I audacity to launch KVM Ministries, LLC without a church or financial backing. With only one member initially (myself), this venture defied traditional norms, illustrating that impactful ministries can extend beyond the confines of a physical church.

Undeterred by the chaos of the COVID era, I confronted self-doubt and skepticism to birth my book, “Spiritual Vitamins – Daily Nutrients for Your Spirit.” Compiled from my weekly broadcast messages, these words of encouragement sustained me during challenging times, particularly as I witnessed my mother’s decline in a nursing facility battling Alzheimer’s. Her passing in April 2019 and my father’s declining health became great motivators to do the impossible.

The book’s publication on August 3, 2020, coincided with my twin girls’ birthday and marked a major moment of success in my life. During COVID, it was unheard of for anyone to do a book signing. However, I did. Through the help of others, I held a successful Drive-thru book signing. Although I was uncertain of anyone coming, I was amazed to see one car after another coming through with people I knew and didn’t know, masked up, to have me sign their book.

Lastly, I remember presenting a copy to my ailing father and how this book brought him immense joy. His smile remains etched in my mind and heart as one of my proudest moments. His passing in November 2020, following my mother’s, added a bittersweet layer to my journey. In the face of adversity, my story is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that every struggle carries within it the seeds of triumph.

Great, so lets talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
