Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwatimilehin Ajulo.
Hi Oluwatimilehin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Oluwatimilehin Ajulo, but everyone calls me Timmy. I was born and raised in Nigeria, and I began designing and making clothes at the age of seven. In 2011, I moved to the United States and my life changed. I have been designing, sewing, and making custom patterns for clients full-time for nine years now. I am currently brushing up and adding finishing touches to my e-commerce platform to sell my designs on a larger scale.
When I first started as Timmy Ajulo, I used my career in-home health aid to fund my business. Also, I researched a lot which helped build relationships with organizations that aided in attracting and bringing me clients which I have sustained over the years, I have worked with celebrities like Jidenna, Wayne Brady, Vernon Davis, Judi Johnson, Myles Frost, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Anthony Hamilton, Patrice Covington and many more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road, but I have kept pushing. There are always hiccups and never an easy route along the road to success in every business and field of work. Being an entrepreneur is a 24/7 schedule, especially being a custom designer, there are no days off.
Being a custom designer, makes me work 24/7 and I have to work closely with my clients paying attention to every detail while being a good listener and bringing their outfits to life. Finding people who have skills like me or who are in this field/line of work is challenging.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a custom designer, I design and bring outfits, be it a wedding dress, gala outfits, men’s suits, any and everything you can think of wearable to life. I specialize in suits, corset dresses, Brides’ outfits, grooms, outfit, bridesmaids outfits, groomsmen’ outfits, evening outfits, African wear, and kids’ outfits for all ages and all sexes.
I am proud of all my achievements and I am most proud when I see the bright smiles and happiness I see on my client’s faces when they wear the outfits I designed for them or when they give me great feedback. My designs are culturally inspired, that is what sets me apart from others.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ll advise you to keep hanging around people who will help you grow either by mentoring you or supporting you and your business. Attend Networking events, has helped me get more clients and hopefully business partners in the future.
