Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Moore.
Hi Tyra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During high school, I had a passion to be a cosmetologist. I started doing my sister’s hair on my own. At the age of 17, when I graduated high school, I went to cosmetology school to become a professional beautician. I did hair on the side, at my mom’s house in the kitchen after doing hair in my mom’s kitchen for a few years. I went and worked for two salons.
Working in those salons, I realized my potential. I knew I was a boss so one day I came home from work at a warehouse which I hated but I had to do what I had to do until my clientele picked up my mom turned her basement into my private salon. I did hair in the basement for four years and then I branched off to get a salon suite on North Avenue at the new echelon. After five years at the new echelon, I opened my salon, which has been operating for four years now called Fierce and Flawless Glam Studio located in Baltimore.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road this business comes with trial areas and staying consistent to this day I’m still building my brand I’ve had a few struggles along the way in 2011.
I found I was pregnant and the next day after ended up in a car crash where I had to get a hip replacement this was all while I was pregnant so I had to take 8 months off to recover and during that time it was so much going on I had to find the strength to continue with my passion I had to start over because I lost clients during my recovery, I felt like giving up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a cosmetologist and I specialize in hair weaves, installing lace wig units, natural hair, and eyelash clusters. I’m known for my quick weaves which are my favorite.
I’m most proud of myself because I’ve put in a lot of work in making my business what it is today. What sets me apart from others is that I’m truly one of a kind and the way my creativity comes through when I’m in my element of styling my clients.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
My family matters to me the most they are my support system without them I probably wouldn’t have made it this far in my career.
