Today we’d like to introduce you to Karl Green.
Hi Karl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I remember being one of the most anxious kids you could meet, I mean I would get bullied by my parents then go to school and be called gay or feminine or maybe I’d be made fun of for being poor and unkempt. Growing up with both parents suffering from mental health and substance abuse, I was exposed to a lot of inappropriate behaviors, situations, and survival-mode ways of living.
Throughout school, I struggled due to difficulty focusing but was passed for being a liked student, which ultimately led to me being undiagnosed until I was an adult. It wasn’t until my father passed in 2019 when I was on probation and homeless that I hit my rock bottom and decided to start my cleaning service for low-income families and also work full time in mental health recovery services. I can share my past feelings and failures to help others succeed.
I went back to school for my high-school diploma and started college for health and human services and now I am a case worker in Baltimore City who helps recovering addicts get back into society, I also employ them with Karl’s Quality Cleaning Services and I’m an independent contractor with multiple PRP companies. (Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy or smooth at all but I’ve made it through my worst days and that gives me the faith to keep going forward. I faced many struggles along the way, the main being able to stay consistent in a world that wanted me to give up.
Finding tools that truly work to keep positive mental health forgiving myself from my past and rewriting who. I am today and believe it is hard as well, stepping into a new you can be scary when the brain only wants what is familiar to us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Karl’s Cases/Karl’s Quality Cleaning Service?
Karls Cases is the name of my PRP services that I offer to many different PRP companies or rehabs. I pretty much am full peer support to people who lack resources and or community. I truly enjoy and love what I do because I’m able to help people find resources and ways to change their lives for the better, I’m able to be who. I needed it when I was younger and lost.
I help people find housing and SNAP benefits, I help with social services and social security disability cases, legal help, and employment help but the biggest thing I’m most proud of is that I’m able to bring people together and build communities by simply being myself and staying judgment free while giving hope to those who have given up on themselves. Karl’s quality cleaning was started during a time when covid started and no one would hire me (while being on probation) I was able to take tools from a past cleaning service I worked for and apply it to my brand of being a well-liked person.
It’s rewarding work that gets a bit emotional and time-consuming at times but it’s truly worth it. Both of these companies of mine are equal opportunity employers and though I am still a small business, I want people to know that we as individuals have the power to impact thousands of lives each day just by smiling and being a light in a city of darkness.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am an artist at heart who wants to paint, sing, and act in my next life full-time. It’s how I decompress.
